Missing Historical Marker In Aliquippa To Be Replaced This Weekend

A missing historical marker in Aliquppa will be replaced during a ceremony on Saturday. The marker will commemorate the Supreme Court’s 1937 decision that established workers’ rights to organize and collectively bargain through the National Labor Relations Board. The previous marker went missing in April 2015, and Aliquippa police believe it was stolen and sold for scrap. The ceremony to replace the marker will take place Saturday at 11 a.m.

Beaver Falls Police Search For Two Suspects in Shooting and Assault of Pizza Delivery Driver

Beaver Falls police are searching for two suspects in the shooting of a pizza delivery driver. Police tell Beaver County Radio News that a 27-year-old Dominoes Pizza delivery driver was shot and robbed late Monday night  in the 1400 block of 5th Avenue. Police say the victim was shot in the shoulder and transported to the Medical Center for treatment. The suspects are described as a light-skinned black male and a light-skinned black or Latino female…both are approximately in their mid-20s. Police say the suspects took off in a 2014 Nissan Sentra. The Beaver Falls police department in conjunction with the Beaver County Crime Solvers are offering a reward for any information leading to an arrest in this incident.

Bernie Sanders Campaign Headquarters Opens In Bridgewater

While Republican Donald Trump campaigned in Pittsburgh last night, an independent group of Democrats opened a campaign headquarters for Bernie Sanders at the United Steelworkers Local 8183 building in Bridgewater. Greg Benedetti was there for the opening and  says the Beaver County campaign will rely on old-fashioned campaigning during the next two weeks. About 40 people turned out for last night’s kick-off event.

Man Found Dead Near Brady’s Run Park

An elderly man was found dead last night near Brady’s Run Park. Police are still trying to identify the man whose body was discovered around 10 p.m. near the park in Patterson Township. The man was located on a hillside near the park.

New Street Lights Being Installed in New Sewickley Twp

New street lights are being installed throughout New Sewickley Township. Penn Power plans to replace 58,000 of the township’s current sodium vapor street lights with more cost-efficient LED lights. The sodium vapor bulbs also had to be replaced every two years on average, meaning the new lights will not only be more cost-efficient, they will also allow the workers in charge of replacing the bulbs to work on other projects.

Pair Arrested During Largest Heroin Bust in Ambridge History

Police in Ambridge have executed the largest heroin bust in the borough’s history. Ambridge borough Police Chief James Mann tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak that officers discovered 64 bricks of heroin worth as much as $48,000 inside the Economy Village home. Eddy Washington of Aliquippa and Aminah Genes of Economy Village were arrested. Police say two children, ages 6 and 11, were inside the home at the time. A 14-year-old child who also lives there was not home when police arrived.

Hopewell Hires New Superintendent

Dr. Michelle M. Miller, South  Beaver Township was hired as Hopewell Area School District’s new superintendent at last night’s meeting. According to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano, Miller was superintendent in Wilmington for 3 years, and served seven years at Blackhawk.  Dr. Miller begins her 5 year term on July 1, 2016.. Dr. Charles Reina, district superintendent for the past 26 years  ewill retire June 30, 2016. The board announced the resignation for retirement of Diana Zikovich head cook at Hopewell Elementary School effective June 30, 2016.The board hired Rodney Weaver as assistant football coach for the district.Chris Galzerano has resigned  from the board, and any resident in the district wishing to  fill his unexpired term should send a letter of interest by 4 p.m. April 25, 2016.

Ambridge Borough Council Approves Proposal To Help Attract New Businesses

Ambridge Borough Mayor Richard Dambrosio swore in the town’s new fire chief, Robert Gottschalk, Donald Larrick, Jr, assistant chief, and David Gorecki, a new firefighter at last night’s meeting. Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano reports that as part of a countywide effort through  the state department of Community and Economic Development,  council approved a proposal to  help encourage new businesses to come to Ambridge. Council and the borough’s code enforcement  officer will meet with Phil  McCaffrey to discusss bringing Urban Agriculture to Ambridge.  Bees, chickens, and rabbits are included in his request.

Quips Honored In Harrisburg

The Aliquippa High School 2016 PIAA basketball champs were honored before the House and Senate in Harrisburg yesterday.  Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano reports that Senator Elder Vogel, Representative Rob Matzie, and  Senator Camera Bartolotta were responsible for the honor being bestowed on the team and coaching staff. School officials said the boys received cerificates and a plaque was presented to be displayed in the district.

Verizon Workers Threaten To Strike

Unions representing more than 36,000 Verizon landline and cable workers are threatening to strike Wednesday morning in Pennsylvania and 8 other states if the company doesn’ t agree to a new contract. Union officials say Verizon wants to freeze pensions, make layoffs easier and rely more on contract workers. Verizon says it needs to rein in surging medical costs.
