Gov. Wolf: There’s Broad Recognition that State Government Needs to Help PA’s Counties Pay for New Voting Machines
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Gov. Tom Wolf says there’s a broad recognition that state government needs to help Pennsylvania’s counties pay for new voting machines, despite a disagreement between the Democrat and the Republican-controlled Legislature. Wolf made the comments Tuesday and says he’s sure the sides can come to an agreement. The Legislature approved $90 million in borrowing authority, but Wolf vetoed it because it included changes to election laws that Wolf says don’t help improve voting security or access.
Fisherman Finds Two Sawn-Off Human Legs Along Susquehanna River in Williamsport
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say portions of two sawn-off human legs found on a central Pennsylvania riverbank earlier this year are believed to have belonged to a woman, but she still hasn’t been identified. A fisherman found the legs May 11 along the Susquehanna River in Williamsport.
PA Makes its Largest Deposit into its Budgetary Reserve Account in Nearly Two Decades
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania is making its largest deposit into its budgetary reserve account in nearly two decades. Tuesday’s deposit of $317 million comes after strong corporate and sales tax collections drove the state past its revenue expectations by almost 3%. The 2019-20 fiscal year that began July 1 is projected to be another relatively strong year for tax collections. However, not everything’s rosy. Pennsylvania still had $67 billion in state pension debt and its working-age population is shrinking.

New Castle City Police Warning Residents of Phone Scam
New Castle City Police are warning residents of a recent phone scam. City police say they never contact you by phone demanding payment for outstanding warrants, nor do they accept gift cards as payment for any fines or fees.
Run-In with Pamplona Bull Made American ‘Fear for My Life’
PAMPLONA, Spain (AP) — The desire to have a selfie as a souvenir from running with the bulls in Spain turned into a near-death experience an American lawyer says he’ll never forget. A charging bull ran over and gored San Francisco resident Jaime Alvarez in the neck during the first run of this year’s San Fermin festival in Pamplona. The 46-year-old Alvarez says he just wanted to shoot a 5-second video scene to say ‘Here I am, I did it.'”…and that’s when the stray 6-ton bull came at him running fast. Alvarez says it was like being hit by a truck. Someone grabbed Alvarez by the arm and pushed through the crowds to get to paramedics, saving the American’s life. Doctors told Alvarez the bull’s horn went deep into his neck and fractured part of a cheekbone. Alvarez is recovering from surgery and could be discharged as soon as today.
Louisiana Man Faces Charges for Licking Ice Cream at Store
NAPOLEONVILLE, La. (AP) — Another apparent incident of someone licking ice cream at a store has surfaced. This time it’s in Louisiana.
Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office says a man posted a video of himself on Facebook opening a Blue Bell ice cream container, licking it, poking it with his finger and putting it back on the shelf.
News outlets report 36-year-old Lenise Martin III was charged Saturday with property tampering and posting criminal activity.
Police Commander Lonny Cavalier says after being alerted of Martin’s actions by management, deputies found Martin at the scene showing the sales clerk a receipt showing he bought the ice cream he licked. Deputies searched the freezer and confirmed the purchase but still decided to move forward with the charges.
Earlier this month, a teen in Texas was shown in an online video taking ice cream from a Walmart freezer, removing the top to lick it and then putting it back.
