New Brighton’s K-9 Officer Retires

New Brighton’s K-9 cop is calling it a career. Faust worked his last shift on April 6th and officially retired from police work Monday. The Belgian Malinois – German shepherd mix will spend the rest of his days with the family of his former partner and handler, Matt Montagazzi.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats are weaving details of President Donald Trump’s conduct into their 2020 election plans, but they’re struggling over whether to try to actually impeach him. The debate is taking place from the presidential campaign trail on down. White House hopefuls say the Mueller report makes the case that Trump should be formally charged by the House. But Democratic House leaders are urging caution.

Sen. Bob Casey Wants Presidential Primary Debate To Be Held in PA

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Democratic US Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania is lobbying for a presidential primary debate to be held in his home state, which is projected as a battleground in the 2020 presidential election. Casey’s letter Monday to Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez says holding a primary debate in Pennsylvania would benefit the party in a state that holds great electoral importance to Democrats. President Donald Trump in 2016 became the first Republican to win Pennsylvania since 1988.

State Lawmakers Writing Legislation To Create State-Level Retirement Savings Program

With Pennsylvania facing a wave of retirees leaving the workforce with no savings, top state officials are working to head off its worst effects. A task force organized by Treasurer Joe Torsella has spurred an effort that now has key state lawmakers writing legislation to create a state-level retirement savings program. There are an estimated 2.1 million people in Pennsylvania who work for employers that offer no retirement savings account or pension plan, or one-third of the workforce.

Pennsylvania’s Unemployment Rate Drops To Lowest Rate On Record

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate dropped in March to the lowest rate on record, as payrolls hit a new record. The state Department of Labor and Industry said Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate dropped by one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.9%. Pennsylvania’s rate had twice previously hit 4% since 1976, when the state’s records begin. Among states, Pennsylvania is tied for 31st. Non-farm payrolls rose 4,000, to a record high above 6 million.

East Rochester Residents Dealing With Flood Damage Following Storm

It was a wet and stormy Easter weekend for many in Beaver County, but for some it was tougher than others. Some residents in East Rochester couldn’t even get to their homes, and others dealt with flooding issues. Some residents there are still dealing with flooding, property destruction, loss of utilities and major loss from the weekend storm, which left debris and mud behind. Bob Knox – the mayor of East Rochester – says as mayor he is responsible for public safety and he plans on having the streets department check the borough’s drain pipes and also plans to address the problems at Wednesday’s council meeting.

Route 68 Third Street Lane Restrictons Begin Today In Beaver Borough

PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists that pavement marking work on Route 68 (Third Street) in Beaver Borough, Beaver County will begin today, weather permitting. Pavement marking removal and replacement operations will occur on Route 68 between Buffalo Street and Dravo Avenue weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday, May 3.  Single-lane restrictions will occur.
