American Lung Association Gives Pittsburgh Failing Grade For Air Quality

The American Lung Association is again giving Pittsburgh a failing grade for air quality.  In their annual report, the Lung Association ranked Pittsburgh as having the seventh worst year-round particle pollution and more unhealthy days of high ozone compared to last year.  Pittsburgh went the wrong way when it comes to particle pollution compared to last year while most other cities showed their best progress in that area.

Beaver County Charity Planning To Give Thousands Of Bikes To Kids

A Beaver County charity is planning to give one-thousand bikes to kids in Beaver County. Communicycle, a group that repairs and distributes bicycles to kids in the area, is making that commitment for this summer. So far, volunteers from local churches and businesses have been volunteering time fixing up some old bikes for distribution.

Saturday Is National Drug Take-Back Day

Western Pennsylvanians can get rid of unwanted prescription drugs this weekend. The annual National Drug Take-Back Day is scheduled tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at dozens of police stations and other locations. New Chief Deputy For Beaver County Sheriff’s Office Starts Next Month

There will be a new chief deputy for the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office starting next month. Retired State Police Lieutenant Paul Radatovich will take over for Chief Deputy Dean Michael in May. Michael is retiring after three years working under Sheriff Tony Guy. Radatovich’s most recent role was as a crime section commander stationed in Washington County.

Riverside High Student Charged With Displaying B-B Gun On School Grounds

A student at Riverside High is being charged after displaying a B-B gun while leaving school grounds this week. The student was reported using the state’s Safe To Say website after he was allegedly seen swinging the pistol around as a car full of students left the parking lot. The 16-year-old will face a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct and will face discipline from the school.

Boy, 11, killed in crash on Pennsylvania turnpike

Boy, 11, killed in crash on Pennsylvania turnpike
MOUNT PLEASANT, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say an 11-year-old boy has been killed in a crash between a pickup truck and tractor-trailer on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Hayden Ford was killed in a collision Thursday just before 2 p.m. on the turnpike in Mount Pleasant.
Officials say Hayden was riding in the front seat of the pickup when it rear-ended a tractor-trailer. The Connellsville’s native was pronounced dead at the scene.
A person in the tractor-trailer was airlifted to a hospital with unknown injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.

Beaver County Payroll Supervisor Fired Over Tax Lien

The payroll supervisor who withheld notices of fines for delinquent payroll taxes from county officials – was fired this morning. Chief county solicitor Garen Fedeles tells the Beaver County Times that county officials found that Barbara Rossi had received numerous notifications from the IRS of an impending lien but did not notify superiors. The move comes as county officials continue to investigate a $378-thousand-dollar tax lean filed by the IRS against the county. Fedeles and other county officials were scheduled to further discuss the lien with the IRS today.
