Pittsburgh Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Drug Overdoses

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Police say a man has been arrested on suspicion of providing a white powdery substance tainted with fentanyl at an after-party in Pittsburgh, leading to the death of three men. Pittsburgh Public Safety says Peter Rene Sanchez Montalvo was arrested Monday on federal charges of distributing a controlled substance resulting in death and serious bodily injury. No information on an attorney for him was available.

Trump Suggests He Raised the Bidens with Ukraine’s President

WASHINGTON (AP) — White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham says releasing a transcript of President Donald Trump’s phone call with Ukraine’s new leader “could set a bad precedent.” She tells Fox News that Trump is willing to do it but says lawyers “may have a problem with it.” Trump suggested over the weekend he raised former Vice President Joe Biden and Biden’s son Hunter during the call. Democrats want to investigate whether Trump improperly used his office to try to dig up dirt on a political rival.

Trump Says Meeting with Kim Jong Un ‘Could Happen Soon’

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — U.S. President Donald Trump says another meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un “could happen soon.” Trump didn’t elaborate Monday at the start of U.N. meetings in New York about a possible fourth summit with Kim over the North’s expanding nuclear program. Nuclear talks have been stalled despite meetings between Trump and Kim. The U.S. president has played down a series of recent weapons tests by the North. Trump meets with South Korean President Moon Jae-in later Monday.

Elizabeth Warren Overtakes Biden to Lead Latest Iowa Poll

Elizabeth Warren took the lead in Iowa in a new state poll released Saturday, barely dislodging former Vice President Joe Biden from the No. 1 spot in the state, putting the two of them in a statistical tie. Warren has the support of 22% of likely participants in the Iowa caucuses, up 7 percentage points from June. Biden landed in second place with 20%, down slightly from June. Though the result is in the poll’s 4 percentage point margin of error, it’s the first time Warren has led Biden in the Iowa Poll series. Bernie Sanders was in third place at 11% and Pete Buttigieg stayed in fourth place ahead of Kamala Harris, but dropped slightly to 9% of poll respondents. Harris fell 1 percentage point from June to poll at 6%, while Amy Klobuchar and New Jersey Senator Cory Booker both polled at 3%. Billionaire businessman Tom Steyer, Congressman Beto O’Rourke, Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard and businessman Andrew Yang polled at 2%. All other candidates polled at 1% or less. Still, the field is fluid. Nearly two thirds of respondents said they still haven’t made their final decisions and could be persuaded to support another candidate. The Iowa caucuses lead off the nominating contest for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination on Feb. 3.
