Tight deadlines for absentee ballots mean Pennsylvania’s mail-in votes arrive too late to be counted far more often than the national average. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that 4.2% of Pennsylvania’s absentee ballots got to voting offices after the deadline to be counted in the November 2018 election, compared with less than 1% nationally. The Inquirer says the commission figures apparently undercounted the number of Pennsylvania late ballots by at least 1,400.
U.S. Senator Bob Casey has introduced a measure that would enhance and expand support, protection, and prevention for Americans affected by family violence, domestic violence, and dating violence. The bill strengthens and updates the National Domestic Violence Hotline to better serve underserved populations, such as people who are deaf or hard of hearing, expands prevention efforts and creates a new program that provides resources. More than 10 million people in the United States are abused each year with more than one third of women and men reporting the experience of sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner.

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she “had a nice meeting” with high-profile progressive lawmakers Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Pelosi downplayed any differences with the freshman lawmaker after a half-hour meeting today with “AOC.” Ocasio-Cortez recently criticized Pelosi, saying she felt Pelosi had been “outright disrespectful” by “the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color” for criticism.
DETROIT (AP) — Democrats are hoping young black voters will turn out for next year’s presidential election despite not having the energizing presence of Barack Obama at the top of the ticket. Democrats will be watching the 2020 campaign to see if they can match the potent multiracial coalition Obama put together in his presidential election wins. There’s likely to be a similar coalition, but the big question is whether it will have the intensity and numbers of the Obama elections in 2008 and 2012.
UNDATED (AP) — Prosecutors set to defend Bill Cosby’s sexual assault conviction in appeals court next month say the accusations from other women are no coincidence, but “the culmination of a decades-long pattern of behavior.” The 82-year-old comic actor is the first celebrity convicted and sent to prison in the #MeToo era. His appeal challenges the trial testimony of five other accusers. But Montgomery County prosecutors in a filing late Thursday say that’s allowed when it points to a “signature” crime.

The dispute then continued when they reached the home, and authorities say the man fired the fatal shots shortly before 8:30 p.m. The sister was shot twice in the chest and twice in the stomach. She was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead there a short time later.
