THE COPYRIGHT OWNERS OF THE ‘CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS’ THEME SONG HAVE SUED DOLLYWOOD IN FEDERAL COURT FOR COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT. NEWS OUTLETS REPORT THE COMPLAINT SAYS THE EAST TENNESSEE THEME PARK, WHICH WAS NAMED FOR COUNTRY STAR DOLLY PARTON, HAS USED THE SONG WITHOUT PERMISSION IN LIVE CHRISTMAS PERFORMANCES SINCE 2007. THE LAWSUIT SAYS LOS ANGELES-BASED LEE MENDELSON FILM PRODUCTIONS OWNS THE COPYRIGHT…AND IS ASKING FOR $150,000 FOR EVERY TIME THE SONG HAS BEEN USED. New Castle Police Department Warns Of Donation Scam Calls

The New Castle Police Department has issued a scam warning about solicitors requesting donations on behalf of the department. In a Facebook post on Thursday, the department said it received several questions about the scam. Officials said they are not calling people to ask for money. HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A lawsuit seeks to keep a proposed state constitutional amendment question off Pennsylvania’s Nov. 5 ballot, arguing it improperly combines several amendments that must be voted on separately. The state League of Women Voters sued Thursday in a bid to prevent a vote on Marsy’s Law. The ballot question passed the Legislature overwhelmingly and would give crime victims the right to be notified about, attend and weigh in during plea hearings, sentencings and parole proceedings.

Investigators Blame Electrical Extension Cord for Fatal Fire in Erie, PA

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — Investigators are blaming an electrical extension cord for a fire that killed five small children in Pennsylvania. The investigative team announced Thursday that the deadly Aug. 11 fire at the Erie, Pennsylvania, home that included the Harris Family Daycare was an accident. They say it was caused by an electrical failure associated with the extension cord. The 1 a.m. blaze began in the first-floor living room.

Pittsburgh Heart Surgeon Arrested in Child Sex Crime Sting

A Pittsburgh heart surgeon was one of eight people arrested after a days-long operation to crack down on online sexual predators targeting children. 38-year-old Shawn Paul Robinson – a surgeon from Pittsburgh who was on a fellowship at a hospital in Houston – was arrested for online solicitation of a minor following the undercover operation. In the operation, “Back to School III,” undercover officers chatted with the predators using online personas in various social media apps. They were posing as minors. Investigators say Robinson, along with the seven others arrested, believed they were talking to underage children.

Man Killed in Head-On Crash in Greene Township

A man was killed in a head on crash Thursday in Greene Township. State police say a woman was driving along Lincoln Highway around 4:30 p.m. when she crossed the center line and hit another car driven by 33-year-old Timothy Williamson of Wellsville, Ohio. Williamson was killed in the crash. The other driver was seriously hurt. State police say the woman was driving too fast for conditions.
