Sanders Limits Campaign Workers’ Hours to Ensure $15 Minimum Wage

Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign will limit staffers’ hours to ensure they are paid at least $15 an hour, according to Fox News. The move comes following reports of internal strife among unionized campaign organizers working for Sanders’ presidential campaign who say they are not being compensated for the number of hours they are working. Sanders is a staple on the front lines of the labor fight and has led the charge to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. The Washington Post last week reported that the union representing the campaign workers, United Food & Commercial Workers Local 400, had written a draft letter that stated “many field staffers are barely managing to survive financially, which is severely impacting our team’s productivity and morale. Some field organizers have already left the campaign as a result.” Sanders complained that staffers were going to the press instead of keeping their concerns internal.

Republicans, Democrats Agree: Mueller’s Testimony This Week Could Be Pivotal

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans and Democrats seem to agree that former special counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony this week could be pivotal in shifting public opinion on the question of holding President Donald Trump accountable. Republicans say they’ll focus on making clear Mueller’s report represents a “final episode” in the Russia probe and say any thought of Trump’s impeachment “is waning.” Democrats plan to air evidence of wrongdoing by Trump in a potentially last-ditch bid to impeach him.

Elijah Cummings: Trump Is a Racist — ‘No Doubt About It’

Civil rights icon and veteran Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., declared Sunday there is “no doubt” President Donald Trump is a racist, condemning his admonition to four minority congresswomen to “go back” to their countries. In a stunning rebuke on ABC News’ “This Week,” Cummings said Trump’s week-long twitter attack on Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashid Tlaib of Michigan, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts brought up “very very painful” memories of racism he faced in the 1960s.

Biscuits Start Baking Inside Hot Car in Nebraska as Part of Weather Experiment

So how hot did it get over the weekend? The National Weather Service in Nebraska demonstrated the effects of the brutal heat by trying to bake biscuits using nothing but a car and the sun….with the heat index reaching 103 degrees. The biscuit dough was placed on a cookie sheet inside an enclosed vehicle on Thursday morning along with a thermometer. The biscuits usually take about 14 to 17 minutes in 350-degree heat to bake. Inside the car under the sun, the pan reached 185 degrees in 60 minutes. About eight hours later, the Omaha National Weather Service posted that the otuside of the biscuit was actually edible. The middle was still pretty doughy though.

Joe Biden Compares Trump to Segregationist George Wallace

Joe Biden, a former U.S. vice president and Democratic presidential candidate, compared Republican President Donald Trump on Friday to the late George Wallace, a prominent supporter of racial segregation. Biden, in California for a two-day swing to campaign and fundraise, told a gathering that Trump is “more George Wallace than George Washington.” Wallace, remembered for his white supremacist views, served as Alabama’s governor for 20 years, beginning in 1967, and unsuccessfully sought the Democratic presidential nomination several times. His 1972 presidential bid ended when he was shot, but he survived. Wallace died in 1998. Biden’s comment came days after Trump said in a tweet that four U.S. congresswomen of color “should go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”

Man Who Walked onto Field During Pirates Game Sunday Now Explains Why He Did It

A friend dared him to do it. That’s what police say a 24-year-old central Pennsylvania man told them after he was arrested on the field at PNC Park during the Pirates game Sunday. Police say officers working the game responded to a fan walking onto the field at about 3:40 p.m. Police said it was during the top of the 6th inning when he casually walked toward home plate and put his hand out looking for someone to shake it. Police officers intervened, walking the man off the field and handcuffing him in front of the Philadelphia Phillies dugout. The man, according to police, told officers a friend dared him to pull the stunt. Police say he faces charges of trespassing and disorderly conduct.
