LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Actress and singer Doris Day, who carried her wholesome image through hit movie comedies in the 1950s and 1960s, has died at the age of 97. Word of her death comes from her foundation that worked on behalf of animal rights. Day began her career as a band singer before starring in films such as “Pillow Talk,” the first of three with co-star Rock Hudson. Her off-screen life was not always as sunny; she wrote in her autobiography about money troubles and three failed marriages.

Pennsylvania’s primary election will decide nominees or officeholders for several high-profile offices, including mayor of the nation’s sixth largest city and a U.S. House seat. The election is May 21. It features primaries for Philadelphia mayor and two statewide appellate court seats. There’s also a special election to fill an open seat in Congress.
Ellwood City Medical Center Workers Back To Receiving Full Wages On Time
Employees at Ellwood City Medical Center are back to receiving their full wages on time. For the second payday in a row, the medical center was able to make full payroll after failing to do so for the seven previous paydays. Ellwood City Medical Center’s C-E-O says they’ve been working to navigate their financial challenges since it’s difficult to run a community hospital in their market.
There Will Be Fireworks In Ellwood City This Year Afterall
There will be fireworks in Ellwood City this year. In an effort led by Eric Rayner, the Save The Ellwood City Fireworks 2019 campaign raised ten thousand dollars. Rayner’s goal had been five-grand. Rayner says they’ll take about half of the additional funds raised to put toward a larger display this year and use the other half for next year’s display. The funds were collected over a two-week campaign.
Fate Of Lawrence County Youth Football League Could Be Decided Today
The fate of a Lawrence County youth football league could be decided today. WTAE-TV reports league leaders are considering a proposal to boot two New Castle teams out amid security concerns. A shooting near Taggart Stadium last year forced the teams to play every game on the road and pay for extra security.
Diocese Of Pittsburgh Puts Local Priest On Administrative Leave Following Complaints Of ‘Inappropriate Conduct’ With Adult Women
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A priest with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh has been placed on administrative leave while officials investigate claims that he had “inappropriate contact” with adult women. The decision regarding the Rev. James Young was announced in a May 4 letter from Bishop David Zubik that was distributed this past weekend in the church bulletins of Saint Ferdinand in Cranberry, Saint Gregory in Zelienople and Holy Redeemer in Ellwood City. Zubik said Young’s removal isn’t an implication of guilt.
