NEW YORK (AP) — Americans are commemorating 9/11 with solemn remembrances and vows to “never forget” 18 years after the deadliest terror attacks on American soil. A crowd of victims’ relatives assembled at ground zero, where the ceremony began Wednesday with a moment of silence. President Donald Trump joined an observance at the Pentagon.  Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

NEW YORK (AP) — Vice President Mike Pence is crediting the crew and passengers who fought back against hijackers on 9/11 with protecting the U.S. Pence spoke at the commemoration Wednesday of the hijacked Flight 93, which crashed in a Pennsylvania field, killing 40 passengers and crew. The Flight 93 National Memorial marks the site near Shanksville where the plane went down at 10:03 a.m., after passengers fought back. Officials concluded the attackers had aimed the Boeing 757 toward Washington, D.C.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Republican Dan Bishop’s victory in a special election for an open House seat in North Carolina has averted a Democratic capture of a district the GOP has held for nearly six decades. But Bishop’s narrow victory Tuesday didn’t erase questions about whether President Donald Trump and GOP congressional candidates face troubling headwinds approaching 2020. Democrat Dan McCready referenced evidence of ballot fraud tied to a GOP operative that led to Tuesday’s special election.

UNDATED (AP) — Former Steeler and current New England Patriots wide receiver Antonio Brown faces rape accusations by a former trainer. According to a federal lawsuit filed in the Southern District of Florida, Britney Taylor says Brown sexually assaulted her on three occasions. Brown denies the allegations. The Patriots say the NFL will launch an investigation.

Support for U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren rose more than that of any other Democratic presidential hopeful over the past month. That is according to the Reuters/Ipsos poll, solidifying her status as a top contender behind Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders. The Sept. 9-10 poll found that 11% of Democrats and independents said they would vote for Warren in their state’s nominating contests. That is up 3 percentage points from a similar poll that ran Aug. 1 to 5. Twenty-two percent said they backed Biden, the former vice president who has been the Democratic front-runner since he entered the race this year, and 16% said they would vote for Sanders, a U.S. senator. Biden’s support was unchanged from the previous Reuters/Ipsos poll, while Sanders dropped 2 percentage points. Biden, Sanders and Harris will square off with seven other Democratic candidates on Thursday at a nationally televised debate in Houston. The Democratic contenders are vying for the right to take on Republican President Donald Trump in the November 2020 election.
