HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania’s State Board of Education is giving its support to proposals by Gov. Tom Wolf to require students start schooling by age 6 and continue until they’re at least 18. The board voted unanimously Wednesday for the Democratic governor’s proposals that he unveiled in February. Lawmakers still must approve the proposals for them to take effect.

Lawmakers In PA Introduce Package Of Hate-Crime Bills Inspired By Mass Shooting In Pittsburgh
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Lawmakers in Pennsylvania are introducing a package of hate-crimes bills that are inspired by a mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue that killed 11 worshippers. Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa said Thursday the October attack at the Tree of Life synagogue showed Pennsylvania law has shortcomings on hate crimes and ethnic intimidation. Among other things, the bills would require municipal police officers to be trained to investigate crimes of ethnic intimidation.
Fayette County Father Convicted Of Third-Degree Murder In Starvation Death Of 23-Month-Old Daughter
UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania father has been convicted of third-degree murder in the starvation death of his 23-month-old daughter, who weighed just 10 pounds when she died in 2016. It took Fayette County jurors about two hours of deliberations Thursday to convict Michael Wright Jr. Wright told reporters he was “innocent” as he was escorted to jail afterwars.
Road Collapses After Large Water Main Break In Crescent Township
A road in Crescent Township has partially collapsed after a water main break. The break occurred on Crescent Boulevard Extension. Police said crews struck a gas line trying to repair the break. Police and firefighters were called to the scene this morning. People who live in the area are asked to use caution on any flooded roads.

The church law is a groundbreaking new effort to hold the Catholic hierarchy accountable for failing to protect their flocks. It provides whistle-blower protections for anyone making a report and requires all dioceses around the world to have a system in place to receive the claims confidentially.

Pennsylvania Mother Who Prosecutors Say Killed Her 11-Week-Old Son With Lethal Mix of Drugs In Her Breast Milk Not Going To Prison
CHALFONT, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania mother who prosecutors say killed her 11-week-old son with a lethal mix of drugs in her breast milk is not going to prison. Under terms of a plea agreement, a judge has sentenced 31-year-old Samantha Jones to three years’ probation and 100 hours of community service. An autopsy found the baby died in April 2018 from a combination of methadone, amphetamine and methamphetamine. Jones told police she had been prescribed methadone because of a painkiller addiction.
