Joe Biden Big Draw in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Democratic donors who helped Joe Biden raise money at the start of his White House run have welcomed the former vice president to Philadelphia for a big-dollar fundraiser. An invitation shows tickets for the event Monday ran from as high as $40,000 for those who bundled large sums and got to attend a VIP reception. Biden has a deep well of support in Philadelphia, where his campaign is headquartered. He is a Pennsylvania native who represented nearby Delaware in the Senate for decades.

Bill Attempting to Improve PA’s ‘Do Not Call’ List Headed to Governor Tom Wolf’s Desk

A bill attempting to improve the commonwealth’s Do Not Call List is headed to Governor Tom Wolf’s desk for his signature. The state Senate unanimously approved House Bill 318 allowing people to permanently register their phone numbers on the list instead of having to re-register every five years. The measure would also allow businesses to register phone numbers for the first time as well.

Personal Finance Class Credit Bill is Sent to PA House

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Legislation is on the move in Pennsylvania to require public schools to allow students to apply personal finance class credits toward high school graduation requirements. The Senate approved the bill unanimously Monday, and sent it to the House. Under the bill, a student who successfully completes a course in personal finance can apply up to one credit to satisfy social studies, math, business education or family and consumer science requirements for graduation.

Ice and Snow Removal Bill Closer to Becoming Law in PA

Senate committee officials are advancing a measure to require drivers to remove ice and snow from their vehicles. The full senate is next for the proposal that would give drivers 24 hours after the storm to get their vehicles clean. This version would fine drivers 75-dollars if police believe the ice or snow on the vehicle poses a threat to other drivers while the current version only targets those who have it fall from their vehicle and strike someone else.

Decision Coming Soon on Proposed Mini-Casino in Big Beaver

A decision may be coming soon on the plan to open a mini-casino in Big Beaver. State officials could vote on Mount Airy Casino’s plan for the proposed Mount Airy Pittsburgh complex in the Castlebrook Development. The casino would have 750 slots, 30 table games, and three restaurants along with between 400-and-500 full-and-part-time jobs. If approved, it’ll take about 16 months to complete construction.

Pittsburgh Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Drug Overdoses

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Police say a man has been arrested on suspicion of providing a white powdery substance tainted with fentanyl at an after-party in Pittsburgh, leading to the death of three men. Pittsburgh Public Safety says Peter Rene Sanchez Montalvo was arrested Monday on federal charges of distributing a controlled substance resulting in death and serious bodily injury. No information on an attorney for him was available.
