WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke is attending an El Paso, Texas community rally timed to serve as counterprogramming to President Donald Trump’s visit. An El Paso native, O’Rourke will address the #ElPasoStrong event at a park Wednesday afternoon, during Trump’s visit. O’Rourke is also attending a morning remembrance at a high school and making an evening visit to a makeshift memorial outside the Walmart where a gunman killed 22 people.

Penn Hills Teacher Points Gun at Police
GLENSHAW, Pa. (AP) — Police in a Pittsburgh suburb shot and killed a teacher who they say pointed a gun at them outside his home. Allegheny County Police say Shaler Township officers responded to a report about a man behaving erratically on Tuesday afternoon. Police say 49-year-old Donald Babbit ignored commands as he advanced while pointing the handgun at them. Three officers opened fire. Babbit was wounded and taken to a hospital, where he died. Babbit was a teacher in the Penn Hills School District.

New Boyscout Sexual Abuse Allegations
A lawsuit against the Boy Scouts of America says lawyers believe they have turned up allegations of sexual abuse against more than 350 people not previously identified in files released by the organization. Attorneys with the Abused in Scouting group filed the suit Monday in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court. The Boy Scouts have said that when any volunteer is added to a database of those who pose a risk of abuse, they are reported to law enforcement and removed scouting.

North Korea Testing Missles
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea says a recent launch of ballistic missiles was meant to send a warning to the Washington and Seoul over their ongoing joint military exercises. North Korea has conducted four rounds of weapons tests in two weeks, with state media saying the most recent Tuesday were supervised by leader Kim Jong Un. The launches come amid a stalemate in nuclear negotiations with the U.S. Though the tests are prohibited by the U.N., U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed their significance.
The “Ellis Island” of the Border
UNDATED (AP) — The weekend shooting massacre that killed 22 people in El Paso, Texas, happened in a city that’s sometimes called the “Ellis Island” of the border. Many Mexican Americans in Los Angeles, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado and beyond can trace their families’ roots to El Paso. The white gunman is believed to have written an anti-Hispanic rant before opening fire with an AK-47 on Walmart shoppers. Many of the victims were Latino.
Dayton Mayor Comments on Trump
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Dayton, Ohio Mayor Nan Whaley is questioning whether President Donald Trump’s visit to her city on Wednesday will help following the weekend mass shooting that left nine people dead. Whaley says, “I can only hope that as president of the United States that he’s coming here because he wants to add value to our community and he recognizes that that’s what our community needs.” Trump will also visit El Paso, Texas, where a weekend shooting killed 22 people.
