Trump kicks off Veterans Day tribute in NYC

Trump kicks off Veterans Day tribute in NYC
NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump kicked off New York City’s Veterans Day Tribute on Monday by saying the nation’s veterans “risked everything for us. Now it is our duty to serve and protect them every single day of our lives.”
Trump spoke at the opening of the 100th annual parade organized by the United War Veterans Council in Madison Square Park. He is the first sitting president to accept the group’s invitation to speak at the event.
As Trump spoke, more than 100 protesters gathered and could be heard with whistles and booing. Some chanted “lock him up” and “shame, shame, shame.”
Trump told the crowd that the nation’s veterans often came face to face with evil and did not back down.
“You returned from war and you never forgot your friends who didn’t return,” Trump said. “But your greatest tribute of all is the way you lived your lives in the years since.”
Trump also used the event to tout the strength of the U.S. military and the death of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, saying “al-Baghdadi is dead. His second in charge is dead. We have our eyes on number 3.”
Trump has been a longtime supporter of the parade. The New York Times reported that during the 1990s he pledged $200,000 and offered to raise money from friends in exchange for being named the parade’s grand marshal.
Trump is a lifelong New Yorker but recently changed his official residence to Florida , complaining about his treatment by the heavily Democratic city’s elected officials.

WASHINGTON (AP) — New York Rep. Peter King says he will not seek reelection in 2020. After Boost From Rick Perry, Backers Got Huge Gas Deal in Ukraine

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine awarded a potentially huge oil and gas contract to two political supporters of Energy Secretary Rick Perry just weeks after he recommended one of them as an adviser to Ukraine’s new president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Perry endorsed his friend from Texas while representing the Trump administration at Zelenskiy’s inauguration. Perry’s nod and the contracting decision came as the alleged quid pro quo at the center of the impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump was taking shape.

Pennsylvania Turnpike to Buy Town’s Pool for Lane Widening

MONROEVILLE, Pa. (AP) — The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is about to be the proud owner of a swimming pool. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the turnpike has agreed to pay the town of Monroeville nearly $1 million for its public swimming pool at Bel-Aire park. Motorists won’t be able to take a refreshing dip, though. The turnpike is planning a major widening project on Interstate 76 between the Irwin and Monroeville exchanges, and the pool will need to go. Monroeville Council approved the sale last month.

Does Smoking Pot Make Your Tongue Turn Green?

Police officers across the USA are alleging in some DUI cases that people who recently smoked marijuana had green tongues. In one specialized training program that is taught all over the world, law enforcement is told to look for a “possible green coating”. However, there are no scientific studies that show marijuana causes someone’s tongue to turn green.
