Stocks slump, despite Fed aid, as virus bill stalls again
By STAN CHOE, DAMIAN J. TROISE and ALEX VEIGA AP Business Writers
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are ending another bumpy day broadly lower on Wall Street as investors wait to see if Democrats and Republicans can settle their differences on an economic rescue package. Major indexes ended down about 3% Monday, having been down as much as 5%. Earlier, markets got a bump following the latest announcement of support from the Federal Reserve. The Fed said it would buy as much government debt as needed to help markets operate smoothly and lend money to businesses and local governments, but the gains quickly vanished. Markets are likely to remain volatile as long as the coronavirus outbreak accelerates.

Wolf issues stay-at-home order for hardest-hit counties
By MARK SCOLFORO and MICHAEL RUBINKAM undefined
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Gov. Tom Wolf is ordering residents of Pennsylvania’s hardest-hit areas to stay home to help combat the spread of the new coronavirus that has sickened hundreds and caused six deaths statewide. He also shuttered schools statewide for an additional two weeks. Noting that Philadelphia already ordered residents to remain home, Wolf issued the stay-at-home order for the counties around the city; for Allegheny County, which includes Pittsburgh; and for Monroe County in the Pocono Mountains. Those counties account for 75% of Pennsylvania’s confirmed cases of COVID-19. Wolf has imposed progressively tougher measures as state officials say the pandemic threatens to swamp hospitals and spike the death toll.
Dr. Anthony Fauci Says He Can’t Stop Trump from Talking at Briefings
WASHINGTON (AP) — Dr. Anthony Fauci says he can’t jump in front of the microphone to stop President Donald Trump from speaking at daily White House briefings on the coronavirus outbreak. Fauci told Science magazine in an interview Sunday that Trump listens even though they disagree on some things. One thing they disagree on is Trump’s complaint that China should have told the world earlier about the virus. Fauci says he told the “appropriate people” after Trump made the comment that it “didn’t comport.” But Fauci says if Trump repeats he “can’t jump in front of the microphone and push him down.”

PA Supreme Court Dismisses Lawsuit Filed by Gun Shop Challenging Wolf
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a gun shop that challenged Gov. Tom Wolf’s authority to shutter businesses determined to be “non-life-sustaining,” paving the way for enforcement to begin Monday. The state’s high court late Sunday denied the petition by a gun shop, a gun purchaser and a law firm to have Wolf’s shutdown order thrown out. The lawsuit had claimed Wolf’s edict violated the Second Amendment right to bear arms and other constitutional rights. Wolf has ordered all nonessential businesses to close their physical locations, saying the measure is needed to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. Businesses that remain open to the public include grocery stores, pharmacies, hotels and motels, beer distributors, laundromats and gas stations.
