Outlandish Comments From Steve King

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Conservative Iowa state Sen. Randy Feenstra says “bizarre comments” from Iowa’s U.S. Rep. Steve King about abortion “diminish our message & damage our cause.” King spoke to a conservative group in Iowa Wednesday, defending his call for a ban on all abortions by questioning whether there would be “any population of the world left” if not for births due to rape and incest.

Philadelphia Police Officers Discharged From Hospital

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — All six police officers who were struck by gunfire during a standoff in Philadelphia have been released from the hospital. Police say officers were serving a drug warrant at a rowhouse Wednesday afternoon when a man opened fire. Two officers were trapped inside the house for about five hours, but were freed by a SWAT team. Police say the man was taken into custody early Thursday.

13-Year-Old Football Player Dies

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A 13-year-old who was playing football collapsed while running off the field and died in Pittsburgh. Police found Jordan Duckett unresponsive on Wednesday night. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death has not been determined.

Ancient Fish May Be Put On Endangered Species List

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says it will consider whether to list the lake sturgeon as an endangered or threatened species. The agency said Wednesday there is “substantial information” to justify a study of whether the ancient fish should receive federal protection. Lake sturgeon are members of a family of fish that reach back to the dinosaur era. Their range extends from Hudson Bay through the Great Lakes to the southern Mississippi River.

AUDIO: Humane Society Seizes 41 Cats, Salyards Talks About What Happens Next

The Beaver County Humane Society recently sent out a press release that stated that newly installed Humane Officer Celina Kelly had seized several animals from an Ambridge home. In an interview with Beaver County Radio, Executive Director Susan Salyards talked about how many animals were rescued, as well as their current condition:

 

This seizure comes on the heels of a prior excursion that rescued 19 dogs from inhabitable conditions, according to the Humane Society press release.

Salyards then spoke about the next moves that the Humane Society will make and hopes to make for these cats:

Midland Man’s Accidental Death

Kung Siu of North Carolina was killed in a work-related accident in Midland on August 1st. A report from Allegheny County said Siu died of blunt force trauma to the head and neck, and ruled his death to be accidental. Midland Police have not returned messages pertaining to his death.

PA to Close 2 Facilities for People with Disabilities

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania officials have announced plans to close two centers for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities over the next three years. The Department of Human Services said Tuesday that public meetings will be held next month to gather comment on the plans to close the Polk State Center and the White Haven State Center. The Polk center currently serves 194 residents and the White Haven center serves 112 people.

Hickenlooper Drops Out

DENVER (AP) — The Democratic presidential campaign of former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper never quite caught on, and now a Democrat close to Hickenlooper tells The Associated Press he is dropping out of the race. Hickenlooper is expected to make the announcement on Thursday. Hickenlooper ran as a moderate but struggled with fundraising and developing an attention-grabbing message, and Democrats nationally have encouraged him to run for the Senate against Republican incumbent Cory Gardner.

Trump to Visit New Hampshire

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — President Donald Trump is hoping to woo New Hampshire into his column heading into 2020. The president will visit the state on Thursday to hold a reelection rally. New Hampshire is doing well economically, at least when using broad measures. But beneath the top line data are clear signs that the prosperity is being unevenly shared, and when the tumult of the Trump presidency is added to the mix, the state’s flinty voters may not be receptive to his appeals.
