The building where Beaver Valley Bowl is in Rochester is still on the market after failing to sell at auction last week. None of the bids came close to the minimum of 500-thousand for the 80-thousand-square-foot property on New York Avenue. The building may go back out to auction in the spring.

Reassessment, Not Budget, Focus Of Work Session

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

During a brief 20-minute work session at the courthouse on Wednesday, the ongoing reassessment hearing between the County and Charles Betters became the focal point of discussion, rather than the 2019 budget that was first introduced last week.

When asked about the current status of the reassessment hearings, Solicitor Garen Fedeles said that it’s in the hands of Harrisburg:

Then it was asked if there was a Plan B for the County if they were to lose the reassessment hearings. Fedeles responded by saying that there would be legal options to deal with the $8-10 million matter…

…while Commissioner Sandie Egley reassured that the County will be prepared if they were to come out on the losing side:

As far as the 2019 budget, there was little discussion among the Commissioners themselves and even less among the department heads:

As Commissioner Camp mentioned in the above clip, department heads can attend the work session on December 19 in case they want to address any revisions or considerations for the proposed $210 million County Budget.

WBVP-WMBA Owner Honored for Service to the Community

WBVP-WMBA Station Owner Mark Peterson was honored Tuesday night at the Rochester Chamber of Commerce 2018 Awards Night Banquet.  He received the “Service to the Community” award, in recognition of his dedication to service through Beaver County Radio and in his personal time. Mark was presented by long-time station employee and Sports Director, Bob Barrickman, who was a previous awardee. Also present for the banquet were Cyndi Peterson, Diane Powers, Taylor Nichol, Maureen Cipriani, Pat Septak, and Matt Drzik.

In 2013, Mark and his wife Cyndi Peterson formed Sound Ideas Media LLC and bought WBVP and WMBA. In May of 2018, he authored and self published Behind the Microphone- The History of Radio in Beaver County, PA. PA’s Auditor General Urges State Lawmakers To Rein In Pharmacy Benefit Managers

Pennsylvania’s independently elected fiscal watchdog is urging state lawmakers to rein in pharmacy benefit managers, saying the companies are allowed to operate in secrecy in ways that let them profit while driving up health care costs. Auditor General Eugene DePasquale released an 18-page report Tuesday saying many other states have taken action to lower drug costs by forcing more transparency on pharmacy benefit managers.
