Man Who Made Thousands of Vulgar Calls to Women Gets Prison

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A 50-year-old Oregon man who for years made thousands of anonymous vulgar phone calls to seven women in Pennsylvania has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison. Each victim received over 200 calls from Bob Ugwa in a two-year period; one woman received 1,162 vulgar phone calls from him at all hours of the day and night. In June, Ugwa pleaded guilty to one count of cyberstalking and six counts of telephonic harassment.

Pittsburgh to Host Leading Democratic Presidential Candidates for Education Forum

At least 7 of the leading Democratic Presidential Candidates are coming to Pittsburgh next week. Local teachers, parents and students will have an opportunity to grill the candidates on education issues during a forum in the city. The “Public Education Forum 2020” will be held Dec. 14 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Downtown Pittsburgh. Candidates confirmed to appear include Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar and Tom Steyer, according to Suzanne South of One Pennsylvania. Two other candidates may also attend. The day-long event will be moderated by MSNBC journalists. Questions will come from representatives from an 11-member coalition that includes the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers and One Pennsylvania. Candidates will appear one by one to answer questions. Pittsburgh beat out several other cities for the chance to host the forum, including Chicago and Boston.

PA. Game Commission Investigating Video Posted to Social Media that Shows Injured Deer Being Assaulted

The Pennsylvania Game Commission has identified two young men seen assaulting an injured deer in Brookville, Jefferson County. The game commission says the investigation is ongoing, but charges could be filed as early as today. A video posted to the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s page that was allegedly taken in western Pennsylvania has been shared over 4,000 times. An official with the game commission said that one of the young men seen in the video is an adult. The second is a juvenile. Their names are not being released until any potential charges are filed. The game commission said it is considering a number of different charges against the pair, including animal cruelty. Anyone with information about the video is asked to report it to the Game Commission’s Northwest Region Dispatch Office at 814-432-3187.

State Police File Charges Against a Beaver Falls Man for Fleeing, Eluding

Pennsylvania State Police  have filed charges against a Beaver Falls man for fleeing and eluding police. State police in Beaver attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. The vehicle failed to stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued. During the vehicle pursuit, the driver came to a stop and fled on foot into a wooded area. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Kyle Michael Jones. Charges have been filed accordingly. Man Dies in Mercer County Hotel Pool

A man died after jumping into a hotel pool in Mercer County. It happened at the Comfort Inn in Mercer. The man dove into the pool and hit his head.
Other people using the pool found him. Police have ruled his death an accident.

Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Allegheny County Airport

A small plane made an emergency landing at the Allegheny County Airport last night. The pilot reported mechanical issues with the Piper Saratoga but landed safely. The two people aboard the plane were not hurt. Where the plane was flying from and where it was headed was not made available.

Elderly Man Killed, Wife Injured in Washington County House Fire

PETERS, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say an elderly man was killed in a fire at his Washington County home that left his wife injured. The fire in Peters was reported around 5:30 p.m. Monday. The wife had escaped the home shortly before firefighters arrived, but her husband was trapped inside. Heavy smoke and fire initially blocked their rescue efforts, but the man was soon brought out and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The woman was being treated for undisclosed injuries.
