(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

For 30 years, Danny Cellini was a constant force of hard work and recognition in the city of Beaver Falls as its treasurer. That came to an end Friday with Cellini’s passing at the age of 64–a moment that has allowed citizens, co-workers, and loved ones alike to remember and recall the impact he had on their lives and living spaces. One such remembrance comes from Beaver Falls City Manager Charles Jones, who spoke to Beaver County Radio about how he’ll remember Cellini:

Inevitably though, a new treasurer must take hold in the city, and Jones gave an update on the current status of the process:

Cellini, along with being a Beaver Falls Treasurer for 30 years, was also born and raised in the city starting in 1955. He was laid to rest Tuesday.

US: Ex-Trump Aide Flynn Deserves Up to 6 Months in Prison

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department says President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn deserves up to six months in prison. That’s according to a court filing Tuesday. Flynn pleaded guilty in 2017 to lying to the FBI about his conversations with the then-Russian ambassador to the United States, including about his request that Russia not escalate tensions with the U.S. following sanctions imposed by the Obama administration for election interference. At the time, he was the closest Trump associate to agree to cooperate in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

Stampede Kills 56 at Funeral for Iranian General Slain by US

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian state TV says a stampede at the funeral for a top general slain in a U.S. airstrike has killed 56 people and injured 213 others. Thousands of mourners had surrounded the coffin of Revolutionary Guard Gen. Qassem Soleimani in his hometown of Kerman when the crush occurred. It was unclear what set off the stampede. Online videos showed people lying lifeless on a road and others shouting and administering CPR. Soleimani’s death has brought calls across Iran to take revenge against America, drastically raising tensions across the Middle East. The U.S. warned ships of an unspecified threat from Iran across the region’s waterways that are crucial routes for global energy supplies.

Harvey Weinstein’s Rape Trial Begins on Heels of New Charges

NEW YORK (AP) — Jury selection is going forward in Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault trial New York after a judge denied a defense request for a “cooling off period” the morning after prosecutors in Los Angeles brought new charges against him. The 67-year-old disgraced movie titan shuffled into the courthouse Tuesday with a walker. Jury selection could take weeks. The trial involves charges that Weinstein raped a woman in 2013 and forcibly performed a sex act on another woman in 2006. Weinstein has said any sexual activity was consensual. The start of his New York trial comes after Los Angeles prosecutors charged him Monday with sexually assaulting two women there during Oscar week in 2013. Troopers were testing for fingerprints on the bottle while store officials were reviewing surveillance video.

Biden Stands by His Foreign Policy Resume as He Slams Trump

UNDATED (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is taking aim at President Donald Trump’s decision to approve the airstrike that killed Iran’s top military leader. The former vice president has already criticized Trump as “dangerous” and “erratic.” But with last week’s killing of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani, Biden has called into question Trump’s judgment concerning the United States’ fraught relations with Iran. On Tuesday in New York, Biden is expected to deliver lengthy remarks about Trump’s policies in the context of his own foreign policy experience. That experience is one of Biden’s top selling points as a candidate for the Democratic nomination.

Lawmaker Joins Democratic Primary Field for Auditor General

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A seven-term state lawmaker from central Pennsylvania says he’ll seek the Democratic nomination to run for the open state auditor general’s office this year. Other Democrats running include Pittsburgh city controller Michael Lamb, Christina Hartman, a former congressional candidate from Lancaster County, Nina Ahmad, a former Philadelphia deputy mayor, and Tracie Fountain, a three-decade veteran employee of the auditor general’s office. Pennsylvania’s current auditor general, Democrat Eugene DePasquale, is completing a second four-year term and is constitutionally barred from seeking another.
