Short Work Session Focuses Again On Maple Syrup Festival

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

It was another brief work session at the County Courthouse on Wednesday, and the main topic was once again the Maple Syrup Festival. County Solicitor Garen Fedeles made mention of the contracts involved with DPW employees and use of Brady’s Run Park being an item for next week’s public meeting:

The Festival was recently taken over by PUSH Beaver County, who is replacing the Conservation District as organizers and main sponsors of the event.

Quaker Valley v Ambridge

It was a close one tonight in Ambridge as the the Ambridge Bridgers defeated the Quaker Valley Quakers 50-47. What started as a runaway game for the Bridgers started to turn into a too close for comfort game. The Bridgers took a commanding 11 point lead into the half leading 20-9. At the start of the second things were still going the Bridgers way until the Quakers got hot and started cutting the lead. Heading into the 4th quarter the Bridgers still led by eight. Despite the valiant effort by the Quakers they could not complete the comeback.

Trump Use of Doctored Pelosi-Schumer Photo Draws Muslim Ire

President Donald Trump is drawing criticism for circulating a fake photo of two Democratic leaders wearing traditional Muslim attire in front of the Iranian flag. Muslim American advocates say the amplification of that imagery amounts to promoting Islamophobic tropes. Trump retweeted the manipulated photo after Democrats criticized the administration’s rationale for orchestrating the killing of a top Iranian general. White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham tells Fox News the tweet was intended to show Democrats “almost taking the side of terrorists and those who were out to kill the Americans.” No Democrats have praised the slain Iranian general.

Pelosi Sets Wednesday Votes to Send Impeachment to Senate

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House is expected to vote Wednesday to send the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the Senate. Speaker Nancy Pelosi met privately Tuesday at the Capitol with her Democratic caucus to discuss the timetable. Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell opened the Senate on Tuesday scoffing at the House’s “bizarro” impeachment strategy. He meets later with Republican senators on terms of the trial. Trump is charged with abuse of power for pushing Ukraine to investigate Democratic rival Joe Biden as he withheld aid to Ukraine. Trump is also charged with obstructing Congress’ probe. He has denied wrongdoing.

Wisconsin Appeals Court Puts Voter Rolls Purge on Hold

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin appeals court has put on hold an order to immediately remove up to 209,000 names from the state’s voter registration rolls, handing Democrats who had fought the move a victory in the battleground state. The case is being closely watched, as Wisconsin is among a group of swing states being targeted by both Democrats and President Donald Trump this year. Trump narrowly won Wisconsin in 2016 by fewer than 23,000 votes, putting even more of a focus on every voter in the state. The state appeals court sided with the elections commission Tuesday in putting the purge on hold.

American Airlines Sees More Delay in Return of Boeing Max

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — American Airlines says it’s taking the Boeing 737 Max out of its schedule for two more months, until early June. That means American will cancel nearly 20,000 flights in the first five-plus months of 2020. American’s decision is an acknowledgment of the uncertainty about just when the grounded Max will fly again. It has been grounded since two crashes killed 346 people. Boeing is working on changes to the plane. Federal safety regulators say they have no timetable for letting it fly again.
