Biden blames Trump for violence at Capitol that’s shaken US

WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Joe Biden is denouncing the rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol as “domestic terrorists” and he blames President Donald Trump for the violence that has shaken the nation’s capital and beyond. Biden says the riot by Trump supporters who breached the security of Congress on Wednesday was “not dissent, was not disorder, was not protest. It was chaos.” Biden says the actions Trump has taken to subvert the nation’s democratic institutions throughout his presidency led directly to the mayhem in Washington. And Biden says those who massed on Capitol Hill intending to disrupt a joint session of Congress that was certifying Biden’s election victory over Trump “were a riotous mob — insurrectionists, domestic terrorists.”

(West Aliquippa, Pa.) Beaver County Emergency Services has released a photo of the person who escaped from custody at the Beaver County Jail on Thursday January 7, 2021. Authorities are saying to be alert of an escapee from the Beaver County Jail. Subject is a white male, 5’10”, 160 pounds, with brown hair. Last seen wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and black shoes. If seen, do not approach and call 9-1-1.

A press conference has been scheduled at the Beaver County Jail for 2:30 pm today.

PA National Guard Activated to D.C. through Jan. 20 Presidential Inauguration

Harrisburg, PA – Governor Tom Wolf announced today that approximately 1,000 Pennsylvania National Guard (PNG) members have been activated to support the District of Columbia (D.C.) National Guard and local civilian authorities through the Jan. 20 presidential inauguration in our nation’s capital.

“The unprecedented and disturbing events yesterday in our nation’s capital are cause for ongoing concern and Pennsylvania is prepared to assist as needed in securing peace and an orderly transfer of power on January 20,” Gov. Wolf said. “Our National Guard members will assist the D.C. National Guard and local civilian authorities as they work to keep the area surrounding the Capitol and other locations secure in the coming days leading up to the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.”

“Pennsylvania Guard members are well-trained and well-prepared to assist our communities, commonwealth and country in any way they can,” Acting Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Mark Schindler said. “We are also very fortunate that our Guard members have extensive experience working alongside the D.C. National Guard as part of past training events and presidential inaugurations.”

The PNG members activated will report to their local armories over the next few days to receive their assignments and then travel to the D.C. area to support as required.

Pennsylvania has the second largest National Guard in the country with approximately 19,000 members located in more than 80 armories and readiness centers statewide.

(West Aliquippa, Pa.) According to a report from the Beaver County Sheriff’s Department,  a male escaped from the Beaver County Jail early Thursday.  Hopewell Twp. and Aliquippa police along with the Beaver County Sheriff’s Department are currently searching for the suspect .  No name or description  of  the escapee is being released at this time.  More information according to a spokesperson  should be forthcoming later Thursday.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stunning scenes of President Donald Trump’s supporters storming the U.S. Capitol played out in searing fashion on national television. The pictures were breathtaking: security officers with their guns drawn on the floor of the House of Representatives, rioters smashing windows at the Capitol and climbing in. Anchors and reporters were quick to question why law enforcement wasn’t prepared, given the rally that Trump had spoken at earlier in the day, and some were quick to assign blame on the president for inciting the action. Reporters huddled with politicians inside the Capitol seeking safety from the mob outside.

WASHINGTON (AP)- Republican Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger is calling on President Donald Trump’s Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove him from office.

Kinzinger made the remarks Thursday in a video posted to Twitter, responding to the violent mob that stormed Congress on Wednesday in an attempt to stop the certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s win over Trump.

Kinzinger says, “the president is unfit. And the president is unwell.”

He went on to say Trump “must now relinquish control of the executive branch voluntarily or involuntarily.”

The 25th Amendment allows for the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet to declare the president unfit for office. The vice president then becomes acting president.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Latest on Congress’ confirmation of Joe Biden as winner of the presidential election (all times local):

11:15 a.m.

The chief of the U.S. Capitol Police says the violent mob that stormed the building wielded metal pipes, chemical irritants and other weapons against law enforcement.

Steven Sund issued a statement Thursday saying the rioting protesters “actively attacked” police officers and “were determined to enter into the Capitol Building by causing great damage.”

A Capitol Police officer shot and killed one person, who Sund identified as Ashli Babbitt. Sund did not identify the officer but said they would be placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

Sund defended his agency’s response from criticism that officers did not stop the incursion. He says his agency “had a robust plan” for what he anticipated would be peaceful protests, but what occurred Wednesday was “criminal riotous behavior.”

He said more than 50 Capitol and Washington police officers were injured and several Capitol Police officers were hospitalized with serious injuries.
