Fire Crews on Scene of Fire on Beaver Street in Beaver

(Beaver, Pa.) Beaver County 9-1-1 reported that they received a call at 9:05 a.m. Monday morning for a house fire on Beaver Street in Beaver. Multiple departments have responded and are assisting Beaver. No fire officials were available for comment concerning the type of structure or the cause of the fire. The Cornerstone of Beaver County to Open Men’s Emergency Shelter in Vanport
(Beaver Falls, Pa.) The Cornerstone of Beaver County announced that they were selected by The Community Development Program of Beaver County to receive funding to acquire, rehabilitate, and operate a 24-hour men’s emergency shelter on behalf of the County.
$1,050,000 in county, state, and federal funding from the CARES Act for emergency housing have been allocated by the County for the project. Additional support comes from TCBC fundraising efforts.
The men’s emergency shelter will fill a critical gap in Beaver County’s housing-related crisis solutions as there are currently no in-county shelters that accept men.
A statement provided by the Beaver County Board of Commissioners said, “The men’s emergency shelter is an important next step in Beaver County’s commitment to addressing homelessness. The shelter and its supportive services will provide life-saving and transformational solutions for men in our community who are experiencing homelessness, many of whom are seniors, veterans, and people with disabling conditions.”
TCBC Executive Director, Marie Timpano, commented, “We’re truly honored to work with the County on this milestone development that will ensure that men in need of safe, emergency housing and supportive services can access it right here in their own community. We’re also excited to work with our Beaver County Continuum of Care (CoC) partners to empower shelter participants to secure and maintain stable, permanent housing, independence, and ultimately, a future of hope and possibilities.”
TCBC is currently under contract with Drug and Alcohol Services of Beaver Valley to purchase their current building located at 697 State Street in Vanport.
Information regarding the men’s shelter site, building rehabilitation plans, and program development will be announced as updates are available.

(Beaver, Pa.) Sheldon Jeter,Jr. is headed to trial on June 7, 2021 in Beaver County Court . Jeter is charged in the murder of Tyric Pugh on Keihl Street on the night of May 15, 2020 He has been lodged in the Beaver CountyJail since his arrest last year.
Hookstown Man Charged with Terroristic Threats
(Hookstown, Pa.) Pa State Police in Beaver are charging 39-year-old Thomas Frazzini, of Hookstown, with terroristic threats for sending multiple threatening text messages to Bill Winterrowd of Hookstown. Troopers stated via release that they were call to Wnterrowd’s residence around 7:20 PM last Thursday and after investigate were able to determine the texts came from Frazzini. Charges were filed accordingly against Frazzini.
2021 Beaver Falls Car Cruise Moved to September 11, 2021
(Beaver Falls, Pa.) The Beaver Falls Car Cruise Committee announced on Friday, March 12, 2021 that the 2021 Beaver Falls Car Cruise that was originally scheduled for June 12, 2021 will be rescheduled to Saturday September 11, 2021.
The Cruise that was cancelled in 2020 due to the Corona Virus Pandemic will now hold its 30th Annual Cruise on 9/11. The Committee has big plans for this years cruise that will be announced in the near future. The Cruise is being moved due to the City of Beaver Falls following CDC guidelines and not allowing large outdoor gatherings at this time. The committee met via Zoom in February and agreed with not knowing when the CDC Guidelines could be revised it was in everyone’s best interest to move the cruise to September.

Driver Flees After One Vehicle Accident on Aliquippa Exit of I-376
(Hopewell Twp. Pa.) Pa State Police in Beaver are reporting that a one vehicle accident occurred last Thursday morning, March 11, 2021 around 1:45 AM on Interstate 376 at the Aliquippa Exit.
Troopers said via release that a 2001 Chevy Silverado Pick-up was traveling east on I-376 in Hopewell Township an attempted to take the Aliquippa exit and for unknown reasons struck a guardrail causing disabling damage. The driver of the vehicle is unknown as the crash was not reported and the driver fled the scene in an unknown direction. State Police state that Several Corona beer bottles were located inside and outside of the vehicle.

(AP) — Pennsylvania’s police officers, firefighters and grocery workers are in line to start getting the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine in about two weeks, as the current effort to immunize school workers wraps up. Gov. Tom Wolf said Friday he’s confident the state will meet President Joe Biden’s directive to make everyone eligible by May 1. The group getting special priority after teachers includes police and prison staff, grocery workers, volunteer and professional firefighters, meat processors and farm workers. Pennsylvania’s program to vaccinate teachers and other school workers immunized more than 6,500 people in its first days.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — In a deepening stalemate over financing highways and public transit, Gov. Tom Wolf wants to phase out Pennsylvania’s gasoline tax and is appointing a commission to recommend alternative ways to pay for the state’s needs. Wolf on Friday ordered a commission of lawmakers, transportation industry representatives, transportation planners, government officials and others to deliver recommendations by Aug. 1 of funding alternatives to foot the extra billions of dollars deemed to be necessary. The gas tax that Wolf calls “burdensome” isn’t keeping pace with construction needs as vehicles become more fuel-efficient and more motorists buy electric vehicles, transportation officials say. The gas tax is No. 2 in the nation.
