Total Distribution Tops $2 Billion to Pennsylvania Communities

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today posted detailed information about this year’s distribution of impact fees on natural gas producers – totaling $146,254,725 – on the PUC’s Act 13 website.

County and municipal governments directly affected by drilling will receive a total of $71,488,645.52 for the 2020 reporting year. Additionally, $51,032,424.77 will be transferred to the Marcellus Legacy Fund, which provides financial support for environmental, highway, water and sewer projects, rehabilitation of greenways and other projects throughout the state. Also, $23,733,627.60 will be distributed to state agencies, as specified by Act 13.

With this year’s distribution, the PUC over the past ten years,
as collected and distributed over $2 billion to communities across Pennsylvania.

The PUC has forwarded the information to the Department of Treasury for payment and expects checks to be distributed in early July.

This year’s distribution is approximately $54 million lower than last year, driven primarily by the average price of natural gas in 2020 ($2.08 per MMBtu) versus the average price in 2019 ($2.63 per MMBtu) which caused a lower impact fee payment for each well in 2020 – along with the fewest number of new wells than in any year since the passage of Act 13.

The distributions for individual municipalities are detailed on the PUC’s Act 13 website.

Extensive details regarding the impact fee distribution are available online, including specifics on funds collected and distributed for each year since 2011. Visitors can search and download statistics such as distributions to individual municipalities or counties; allocation and usage of those funds, based on reports submitted by various municipalities; eligible wells per county/municipality; and payments by producers.

The PUC is responsible for implementing the collection and distribution of an unconventional gas well fee (also called an Impact Fee), established by the Unconventional Gas Well Impact Fee Act and signed into law as Act 13 of 2012.

Justices defer Harvard case on race in college admissions

WASHINGTON (AP) — With abortion and guns already on the agenda, the conservative-dominated Supreme Court is considering adding a third blockbuster issue: whether to ban consideration of race in college admissions. The justices Monday put off a decision about whether they will hear an appeal claiming Harvard discriminates against Asian American applicants, in a case that could have nationwide repercussions. The court asked the Justice Department to weigh in on the case, a process that typically takes several months. The presence of three appointees of former President Donald Trump could prompt the court to take up the case, even though it’s been only five years since its last decision in a Texas case about affirmative action in higher education.

(New Brighton, Pa.) Pa State Rep Aaron Bernstine 10^th District announced that the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission awarded a $25,000 grant to the New Brighton Historical Society.

The grant will go towards the historical society’s project of the preservation of the Irish-Townsend House.

Bernstine said via release that “The society provides a valuable service to our residents and the state grant will go toward preserving the history and heritage of Beaver County, which dates back more than 50 years,”. “It is very satisfying to know that we are giving a significant piece of local history a new, fresh look. I was pleased to advocate for this important funding.”

Funding under the program is available to nonprofit organizations and local governments for capital improvements on historic resources listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.

Bernstine said that “Preserving the history of a place through its significant historic resources gives a community its unique character. Historic preservation provides a link to the roots of the community and its people,”

 

(Pittsburgh, Pa.) Pa State Police at the Rivers Casino are reporting that on Friday, June 11, 2021, at 4:34 PM a small amount of suspected marijuana was found on the floor of the Rivers Casino. Troopers were unable to determine whose it was, and the suspected marijuana was destroyed.

(Center Twp., Pa.) Center Township Fire Chief Bill Brucker reported Sunday evening that his department was called to the scene of a structure  fire at Taiwan 101 in Walmart Plaza in Center Twp. on Sunday afternoon at 3:41 PM.  He said new owners have  just taken over and the fire was in the kitchen.  Chief Brucker said the fire is under further investigation today to determine the cause.

(Harrisburg, Pa.) According to the CDC, as of Friday morning, June 11, Pennsylvania has administered first doses of vaccine to 60.1% of its entire population, and the state ranks 9th among all 50 states for first doses administered by percentage of population.
As of Friday morning, June 11, 56.6% of Pennsylvanians age 18 and older are fully vaccinated.
Pennsylvania ranks 5th among all 50 states for total doses administered.

In Beaver County 12,100 people are partially vaccinated and 64, 271 people are fully vaccinated in the County.

According to worldpopulation review.com there are 133,620 adults in Beaver County meaning that 48.1 of Beaver County’s adult population is fully vaccinated.

Once the partially vaccinated receive their second dose the county will be 57.16% vaccinated
