(Lawrence County, PA) Pennsylvania State Police in New Castle are investigating the death of a 38-year-old New Galilee man in Lawrence County.

According to police, James McIntosh was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lawrence County Coroner after an incident reported at about 12:26 a.m. near Haggerty Road and Walnut Lane in New Beaver Borough.

Investigators said McIntosh was found lying on the roadway near a railroad crossing wearing dark clothing as a train approached the area.

Police said the train operators activated the horn after noticing McIntosh sitting upright on the road, but the train struck him before it could stop.

The investigation remains ongoing pending interviews with train employees and people associated with McIntosh. Police said a family member positively identified the victim.

(Beaver County, PA) Tony Guy defeated Jesse James Vodvarka in the Republican primary for Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District, according to a CBS News projection.

Guy will face incumbent Democratic U.S. Representative Chris Deluzio in the general election. Deluzio, who is seeking a third term, ran unopposed in yesterday’s Democratic primary.

Guy has served as the Beaver County sheriff since 2016. Vodvarka is a manager at a family-owned business, according to his campaign website.

The general election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3rd.

(Wampum, PA) The closure of Pittsburgh International Race Complex on November 9, 2025, surprised many in the local racing community.

According to property records, the land was sold for $50 million.

In a news release, Switch announced plans to build a data center campus on the property. The company said the development would span an area roughly equivalent to 300 football fields.

However, some residents in Big Beaver have raised concerns about the project’s potential impact on local resources, particularly water usage.

(Allegheny County, PA) A woman who drove off a snow embankment on Interstate 376 and into the Monongahela River on January 29 had a blood alcohol content above Pennsylvania’s legal limit at the time of the crash, according to Pennsylvania State Police. 

Trooper Rocco Gagliardi said during a news conference today that an autopsy report showed thirty-one-year-old Jacinta Stevens, of Pittsburgh’s West End, had a blood alcohol content above the state’s legal limit of 0.08%. 

Investigators initially worked to determine whether another vehicle may have struck Stevens’ vehicle, causing it to go over the embankment and into the river near UPMC Mercy, Gagliardi said. 

However, investigators found no evidence that another vehicle was involved. Police said a witness reported Stevens passed him in the left lane at an excessive speed before losing control. 

Following the crash, first responders launched a river rescue operation in frigid temperatures. Divers recovered Stevens from the water, and she later died at a hospital. 

Police later recovered the heavily damaged vehicle for forensic testing. Gagliardi described the investigation as tragic and complex and said the case is now considered closed.

(Aliquippa, PA) Pennsylvania State Police in Beaver reported that a 33-year-old Beaver Falls man was arrested on drug possession charges in Aliquippa on March 26.

According to police, Kody Schooley was stopped in the 1200 block of St. Titus Alley at about 2:52 a.m. for a vehicle violation.

Police said Schooley was later arrested on drug possession charges.

(Harrisburg, PA) The summer travel season begins this weekend, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission said it is preparing for an increase in holiday traffic.

The commission expects nearly 2.18 million drivers to travel the Pennsylvania Turnpike between May 22 and May 25, a 2% increase from last year.

Friday is expected to be the busiest travel day, with an estimated 706,000 vehicles on the roadway.

To help ease congestion, the commission said it will suspend construction projects that impact open lanes from May 21 through May 25. Work on the ongoing Open Road Tolling conversion project will continue.

Officials also shared these several safety reminders for drivers traveling during the holiday weekend:

• Practice safe driving habits, including driving responsibly, powering off your devices and removing unnecessary distractions.
• If you see an emergency responder on the road, follow Pennsylvania’s Move Over Law and move over into an adjacent lane if it is safe to do so, or slow down to a speed of not more than 20 mph less than the posted speed limit.

(Butler County, PA) A Pennsylvania Lottery player in Butler County won a $1 million prize with a scratch-off ticket, lottery officials said.

According to the Pennsylvania Lottery, Uni Express in Evans City sold the winning “Win Win Win” scratch-off ticket.

The “Win Win Win” game is a $10 ticket with a top prize of $1 million. The store will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Lottery officials said scratch-off prizes expire one year from the date of sale. Winners are encouraged to immediately sign the back of the ticket and contact the Pennsylvania Lottery at 1-800-692-7481.

(Allegheny County, PA) The Heidelberg Borough Police Department is mourning the loss of its police chief.

In a statement released today, the borough said it was “saddened to announce the sudden and tragic death of Police Chief Dennis Dixon while on duty.”

Officials said Dixon was found dead in his patrol vehicle at about 8:50 p.m. yesterday.

Dixon joined the department in 2008 and was promoted to chief in 2018.

“Our thoughts are with Chief Dixon’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the borough said in the statement.

Allegheny County Police Department is investigating. Information regarding the cause and manner of death will be released later by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Allegheny County investigators say his death wasn’t suspicious.
