(Beaver County, PA) The BVIU Board of Directors is expected to vote on January 28th, 2026 at their regular meeting on borrowing up to $15 million to ensure New Horizon School reopens in time for the 2026–27 school year. However, before the measure can move forward, each of the fourteen school district boards in Beaver County must first approve the proposal. This followed a special session on January 6th, 2026 that took almost four hours and it focused on finalizing details related to the financing, scope and timeline of the project and included both superintendents from the school districts that jointly own New Horizon and BVIU board members. Beaver County Commissioner Chairman Dan Camp informed the board members of the BVIU during that session that $1 million will be contributed from Beaver County toward the remediation effort. Commissioner Chairman Camp has also attended public meetings on the project over the past year and BVIU expresses their gratitude to him and leadership in Beaver County for their support of the rehabilitation project for New Horizon School and their support for the school itself. The school that assists children with special needs in Beaver County is now operating at a cost of $50,000 per month and is operating temporarily from the Charles J. Betters Innovation Center in Midland.

(Washington, D.C.) According to the American Lung Association’s 2025 “State of Lung Cancer” report, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States, yet fewer than 1 in 5 (18%) of people at high risk have been screened. The Ad Council and the American Lung Association have partnered for the Saved By The Scan campaign to encourage those that are eligible to get screened for lung cancer since 2021, because early detection can save lives. People who are eligible for a scan include people that smoke, or people who have quit in the last 15 years, or people with a history of 20 or more “pack years” of smoking (for example, one pack a day for 20 years, or two packs a day for 10 years) and people that are 50-80 years old. The Indiana University football team looks to close out an invincible season tonight, making it a special night for a Beaver County native who has been a part of the squad’s success.

Matt Wilson, a Hopewell High School graduate, serves as assistant athletic director for player personnel for the Indiana football team.

Wilson, a Class of 1997 Hopewell alum, was among the first personnel hires made by Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti in January 2024.

“Anyone who knows Matt Wilson knows what has happened in Bloomington (Indiana) the last two seasons is no fluke,” Will Redmond, general manager of recruiting for the Auburn University football team, told FootballScoop,  a source devoted to football coaching news. “Matt has the distinct ability to take a head coach’s vision for a roster, both culturally and athletically, and bring that vision to life. He has done this at every stop along his journey.

Wilson had worked for Tennessee, his alma mater, as well as Mississippi State, Arkansas State and North Carolina State, before he was hired by Cignetti.

Wilson, earned his bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Arizona State in 2010.

Wilson’s previous stop at IU happened in 2017, when he helped the Hoosiers sign the third-highest-rated class in that school’s history as the senior director of player personnel/recruiting.

He worked two years at Arkansas State (2021-22) where he served as the assistant athletics director for player personnel.  personnel/recruiting.

(Pittsburgh, PA) A man was stabbed in the neck early this morning in the Northview Heights neighborhood of Pittsburgh. A Pittsburgh Public Safety official expresses that police were called to a residence in the 400 block of Mount Pleasant Road in Northview Heights around 5:30 a.m. for the reported stabbing. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man who had been stabbed in the neck. Officers helped him until medics arrived at the scene and officials confirm that the man was taken to an area hospital and was last said to be in stable condition. Witnesses told police that the man who was stabbed got into an argument with another man inside a home before the stabbing took place. Officials stated that one man was taken into custody and charges are expected to be filed in connection with the stabbing.

(Allegheny County, PA) According to officials, at least two people were injured following a crash in Allegheny County yesterday afternoon. PennDOT officials confirmed that due to a crash, Route 51 (Clairton Boulevard) was closed to traffic in each direction between Greenlee Road and Town Square Way in Brentwood Borough. The road has now reopened and Allegheny County dispatchers state that at least two people were taken to the hospital as a result of the crash. It is unclear at this time how many vehicles were involved in this crash.

(Brighton Township, PA) Pennsylvania State Police in Beaver reported via release yesterday that thirty-eight-year-old Titus Hampton of Pittsburgh was not charged after causing a single-vehicle crash in Brighton Township on Tuesday afternoon. At 3:47 p.m., Hampton was driving on I-376 East south of Tuscarawas Road and hit a pothole in the asphalt of that road. Hampton was not injured after the crash occurred and he was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

(Lawrence County, PA) Pennsylvania State Police in New Castle reported via release on Saturday that thirty-three-year-old Robert Gramsky of New Castle was charged after causing a single-vehicle crash in Lawrence County that occurred early on Thursday morning. At 12:39 a.m., Gramsky was traveling west on US Highway 422 west of McConnells Mill Road and lost control of his vehicle due to the road conditions. Minor injuries were reported after the crash occurred but Gramsky was not injured.

(Pittsburgh, PA) Pennsylvania State Police in Pittsburgh reported via release on Saturday that thirty-one-year-old Jeffrey Patterson of Coraopolis was charged and arrested for driving under the influence in Pittsburgh on the early morning of January 3rd, 2026. At 1:08 a.m., Patterson was driving on I-376 West at the on ramp from Edgewood to Swissvale and lost control of his vehicle before hitting the center concrete jersey barrier. Patterson was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence, and his charges are pending after the toxicology results.
