Showtunes, country classics, oldies, cruisin’ tunes, and many more classics…all within a few minutes’ drive of where you are.

The Beaver Valley Community Concert Association is once again presenting a series of five shows in their 2022-23 season, featuring a variety of styles and performers from several generations of popular music. BVCCA co-presidents Rhonda Ficca & Jean Macaluso joined Matt Drzik on the August 4 edition of A.M. Beaver County to preview the shows, which will be held once again at the Beaver Falls Middle School Auditorium at 7:30 PM on show days.

The first three shows of the season will be in the first semester of 2022, and first up will be The Atlantic City Boys on Tuesday, September 20. The Atlantic City Boys will be showcasing their pipes on pop tunes of the 60s and 70s by acts such as The Bee Gees and The Four Seasons. The clock gets turned back on Saturday, October 8 as the BVCCA presents “Nic & Desi: Broadway Song, Dance & Romance” featuring timeless showtunes and world-class choreography. The first semester of shows rounds out with “Sail On!: The Beach Boys Tribute” on Thursday, November 17, with songs of surfing and cruising created by one of the greatest bands of the rock-and-roll era coming to life in the Beaver Valley.

The final two shows of the 2022-23 BVCCA season showcase a variety of genres. On Thursday, April 20, the R&B stylings of “Chester Gregory: Tribute To Jackie Wilson & Friends” will highlight soul classics from the early days of rock to the Motown era. Concluding the season will be “Through The Years” featuring the Kenny Rogers Band with local country music legend (and Blackhawk graduate) Don Gatlin on Wednesday, May 3.

VIDEO: New Brighton Police Chief Ron Walton Previews “National Night Out”

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

“I think when you have difficult situations, most police officers would rather it be calm, cool and collective. It makes it easier on us.”

The elements of “calm, cool, and collective” will be the central vibe tonight in Townsend Park in New Brighton–as well as across Beaver County and the United States–as National Night Out takes place to put the spotlight on police officers and their presence in their communities. New Brighton Borough police chief Ron Walton joined Matt Drzik on the August 2 edition of A.M. Beaver County to talk about the event in Townsend Park, which will take place from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

The outreach aspect of National Night Out comes at a turbulent juncture for police forces all across the nation, and Western Pennsylvania is no exception. “Retention is very difficult now, and recruitment is horrendous,” Walton said, adding that only the Beaver County Police Academy only graduated nine members in its most recent class. Walton hopes that events like these reinforce the positive impact that officers have in local communities and interactions with the public.

Beaver County Symphonic Wind Ensemble Takes Stage Tonight In Penultimate “Midland Music Mondays” Concert

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

There’s only a pair of opportunities left to be part of a “win/win/win” situation in the borough of Midland this summer.

The penultimate concert in the “Midland Music Mondays” series takes place tonight at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, featuring the Beaver County Symphonic Wind Ensemble taking the stage and performing their “great repertoire” for those in attendance. Admission is free to the concert, being co-presented by Lincoln Park and by Beaver County Radio.

Dr. Todd Goodman–who himself is a member of the BCSWE–joined Matt Drzik to talk about tonight’s show, which will feature the Los Gingos Tacos food truck opening up at 4:30 (concert begins at 6:30), and the 50/50 proceeds will go to Veterans of Foreign Wars. “I’ve been blown away by the generosity, caring and giving of our audiences,” Dr. Goodman said. “We’ve passed well over $2,000 of raising money for local charities…I don’t know if a lot of people understand how important this money and this gesture is that we’re making to local groups, but it’s very, very much appreciated.”

VIDEO: Keenan Baker To Host 2nd Annual Christian Cookout In Ambridge On July 30

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

“God really put on my heart that I need to be that person that someone may not have.”

For the past two years, local worship leader Keenan Baker has strived to become that person that God called him to be, and his efforts have led him on many different spiritual ventures. One of those is returning to Beaver County this weekend, as Baker hosts his 2nd Annual Christian Cookout at Park Road Park in Ambridge on July 30 from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm.

The cookout will feature traditional fare like hamburgers, hot dogs, and pizza (courtesy of Vocelli Pizza), along with chicken tenders, cotton candy, and other desserts. There will be live music and a bouncy castle for the entertainment, and citizens of all ages are welcome to attend.

“I tried to have an event where it’s like everyone could just come connect with each other,” Baker said. “I try to bring a bunch of different pastors, entrepreneurs, and just people doing things in life. It’s an event, like…if someone’s lost and doesn’t know what to do next, there’s someone there they can talk to; to help them on their steps, a way to get to where they need to be in life.”

VIDEO: Ambridge Borough Manager Mario Leone Discusses Continued Beautification Efforts & Upcoming Events

(Matt Drzik/Beaver County Radio)

“One of the negatives that Ambridge has been receiving is that it isn’t a safe town. I want to be clear on the air this morning…Ambridge is incredibly safe.”

Mario Leone made that boast about the borough of Ambridge, where he has held the position of borough manager since 2020. Leone sat down with Matt Drzik on the July 26 edition of A.M. Beaver County to talk about Ambridge’s continued goal of improving, as well as some upcoming events taking place in the borough in late summer and early fall.

Leone is one of several new faces to emerge as leaders in Ambridge over the past few years; a group of new faces that also include police chief John DeLuca and mayor Duke McCoy. Since the start of 2020, the borough has initiated a streetscape project to beautify the downtown area, added two new breweries in hoping to grow more business, and reiterated its stance on safety by reintroducing a K-9 unit to its police force.
