VIDEO: Rev. Calvin Brown Memorial Service To Be Held September 25 In Beaver Falls

“He’s been called the Mayor of Beaver County. He’s been called Western Pennsylvania’s greatest ambassador.”

Thus were the words of Joey Brown, speaking about the late Reverend Calvin Brown, who was a longtime pastor at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Beaver Falls and made numerous appearances and speeches throughout the tri-state area and beyond. On September 25, a memorial service and show will be held in his honor at First Presbyterian Church in Beaver Falls beginning at 5 PM.

Joey and his wife Miriam joined Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County to talk about the upcoming Rev. Calvin Brown Memorial Service. Joey and Miriam are members of the band Re-Konception!, a praise band that will be playing for the service on September 25 (you can check out their song “Cry Out”, by clicking the video above). They will be joined by Linda Ross Brown and James Montgomery, among others.

Together they will be paying tribute to a man who, as Joey said, “loved music”. Joey exclaimed that the music heard at the service will not be “performances”, but testaments of ministry that are meant to show and spread the Word of God in the way that Calvin Brown did through music and spoken word. Joey also spoke about the ways in which Brown’s positive message reached out and healed those who received it.

VIDEO: BV Choral Society & Rochester School District Teaming Up For Summer Music Academy Golf Outing On September 25

Usually when it comes to dealing with those of high school age, the arts and the athletics seldom cross paths. In the case of an upcoming event presented by the Beaver Valley Choral Society and Rochester Area School District, however, they will be intertwined towards a great cause.

The BVCS and RASD will be presenting the Summer Music Academy Golf Outing on September 25, a golf scramble for all ages taking place at Blackhawk Golf Course in Chippewa beginning with breakfast at 7AM and the golf itself at 8AM. Banner and Skill Hole sponsorships are available, and all proceeds benefit the Summer Music Academy for high-school students (and recent graduates) in the choral and instrumental music arts.

Ray Rotuna and Chaz Johnson talked to Matt Drzik about the event on A.M. Beaver County, with Ray discussing the importance of what the Summer Music Academy provides for students looking to further their musical skills, knowledge, and potential career pursuance. Johnson spoke about the golf outing itself, providing a fully detailed explanation of the possible matchups and competitions going on, the different prizes that may be handed out, and the overall fun atmosphere that the organizers are hoping for everyone in attendance.

VIDEO: Saint Monica Catholic Academy Gearing Up For 132nd School Year In 2021

Usually when an establishment is still in operation after 132 years, it is a testament to that establishment’s tradition and success. But along with carrying on tradition, an establishment must also be able to adapt to certain changes that may be necessary in order to further maintain success.

Saint Monica Catholic Academy is pursuing such a change heading into the 2021-22 school year, as they are presenting their “No Barriers To God’s Blessings” campaign in order to provide an affordable Catholic education to those seeking to have their children brought up in a faith-based educational environment with no social or denominational boundaries.

Jennifer Villa is the principal at Saint Monica Catholic Academy–located on 10th Street in Beaver Falls–and she joined Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County to talk about the upcoming school year. The conversation centered around the benefits of a Catholic education, including the lack of disruption from the “oustide world” in order to generate a more focused combination of faith learning and curriculum that incorporates STEM.

For more information on St. Monica Catholic Academy or to register, you can call them at (724) 846-5955 or visit them online at saintmonicaacademy.org.
