State inspection finds 9 violations at Andy’s Barbecue in Monaca

Story by Curtis Walsh – Beaver County Radio. Published December 29, 2023 2:07 P.M.

(Monaca, Pa) The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture released an inspection report on Andy’s Barbecue Stand in Monaca from an inspection that took place on December 26th. The inspection states that the stand is out of compliance due to 9 violations.

One violation was that the person in charge in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety, according to the inspector. The report goes on to say that an employee stated he did not wash his hands in the trailer sink. The trailer hand sink was determined to be dry to the touch and water was not connected.

An employee was also observed cleaning a knife with a dry towel during the inspection. The knife was not washed and sanitized as required by the State, and the facility did not have running hot water of 100 degrees for the 3 bay sink. The inspector also determined the facility did not have water connected to a permanent source after being located in the same spot for 3 years. Hard plumbing is required for supply and discharge for a non-mobile facility.

On the Facebook page for the stand, the business made a post stating that their “really long hose is no longer an acceptable option for getting water down to our trailer”. They also stated that they are “grateful to have had the chance to make work fun outside for so long, and we intend to keep that positive attitude going forward”.

The stand is owned by Bowsers Restaurant.

AAA: Don’t Drive Hungover this New Year’s

As people prepare to ring in the New Year, many will choose to indulge with alcohol. In addition to reminding people of the dangers of driving under the influence, AAA East Central also reminds partygoers of the dangers of driving with a hangover.

“Driving hungover can be just as dangerous as driving after having a few drinks,” said Jim Garrity, director of public affairs, AAA East Central. “After a night of drinking, many people will wake up with alcohol still in their blood or they will feel tired and disoriented.”

The only thing that will sober somebody up is time. It can take between 75-90 minutes or longer for the body to eliminate the alcohol contained in one standard-sized drink, which is longer than many people would assume.

Risks of Driving Hungover
According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, hangover symptoms peak when the blood alcohol concentration in the body returns to near zero. Symptoms can last 24 hours or longer, and can include:

  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Headaches and muscle aches
  • Nausea and stomach pain
  • Poor or decreased sleep
  • Dehydration
  • Vertigo
  • Sensitivity to light and sound
  • Anxiety
  • Irritability
  • Increased blood pressure

“We wouldn’t advise that anybody drives with any of these symptoms, regardless of whether they are recovering from a night of celebrating or not,” continued Garrity.

MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — Demolition has begun on the house where four University of Idaho students were killed last year. Jodi Walker is the university’s executive director of communications. She says she hopes the demolition on Thursday will bring closure and healing to the community. Prosecutors told the university they don’t anticipate needing the house for further purposes. Earlier this month, the defense team for a man accused of killing the students accessed the home to gather photos, measurements and other documentation. Bryan Kohberger is charged with four counts of murder in connection with the November 2022 deaths at the rental house near the university campus in Moscow, Idaho.
