Crash in New Sewickley kills one teenager and injures two more

(North Sewickley Township, PA) On Friday, a teenager was killed and two other teenagers were injured after a crash that occurred in North Sewickley Township. According to a report from Pennsylvania State Police in Beaver, Pennsylvania State Police responded to a single vehicle motor crash in the 600 block of Harpers Ferry Road. Three teenage boys were driving a vehicle that went off of the road and then hit a tree, which killed the sixteen-year-old boy in the passenger’s seat. The male driver, according to troopers, was also sixteen, and the male in the back seat was fourteen. Both teenagers who survived were taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital after getting injured. The investigation regarding the crash is still continuing at this time. 

Janice L. (Heitman) Swan Adamski (1938-2024)

Janice L. (Heitman) Swan Adamski, 86, passed away on October 18th, 2024. She was born on July 8th, 1938, in Aliquippa, the daughter of the late Virginia J. (Lux) Heitman Trehar and William H. (Bill) Heitman. 
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband George W. Swan, her second husband, Charles Adamski, a daughter, Janice Louise and a granddaughter, Sara Morgan. 
She is survived by her three loving children, David Alan (Susie), Michele Anne (Jim) and Mark Eric, four grandchildren, Melanie, Eric (Nikki), Kristina (Kevin), Amanda (Scott), and nine great-grandchildren: Ashley, Landon, Noah, Parker, Elizabeth, Camryn, Louise, Bohdi, and James. 
Janice worked as a bus driver for the Hopewell School District for twenty years. She belonged to the House of Prayer Lutheran Church for many years. After her second marriage to Charles Adamski, she joined the Ohio U.P. Church in Hopewell, where she served as a Deacon. She was also one of the original members of The Neighborhood Saddle Club, where Janice and her first husband owned, and trail rode horses. She had a love for all animals and gave many of them a loving home. 
All services were private. Janice was laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Anthony Mastrofransesco Funeral Home, Inc., 2026 McMinn Street, Aliquippa. 

Mary Ann Sasinovich (1940-2024)

Mary Ann Sasinovich, 84, of Economy, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 26th, 1940, a daughter of the late Peter and Florence Brasko. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. “Digger Joe” Sasinovich, and her sister, Rosella Sepella. 

She is survived by her devoted children: Mary Jo (Don) Sivy, Sandy (Drew) Pszenny, Joanne (Nicholas) Tisak, and Debbie Sasinovich; her brother, Peter (Kathleen) Brasko, and her cherished grandchildren: Matthew (Jessica) Sivy, Nicole (John) Gehan, Joseph Tisak, James (Julianna) Tisak, Joshua Tisak, and Amanda Pszenny; five great-grandchildren: Ava, Ella, Ethan, Kristianna, and Clara, along with her beloved furry companion, Cleo. 

Mary Ann was a dedicated fan of Elvis Presley who loved spending time at the casino playing the slot machines. She also enjoyed bingo, pokeno, and watching WWE wrestling. However, her greatest joy in life was always her family. The family would like to thank Veronica and the entire staff of Concordia of Franklin for their loving care of our mother. 

In accordance with her wishes, funeral services will be private. Arrangements entrusted to Alvarez-Hahn Funeral Services and Cremation, LLC., 547 8th Street, Ambridge. 

Mark Livingston (1962-2024)

Mark Livingston, 62, of Darlington Township, passed away on November 15th, 2024, in his home. 

He was born in Beaver Falls on August 16th, 1962, in Beaver Falls, the son of the late Leonard and Ruth (Staggers) Livingston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Judy Livingston and Sue Ellen Cormier. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Donna (Schockling) Livingston, a son, Dylan (Tiffany) Livingston, a daughter, Sarah (Jake) Livingston, four grandchildren, Jakob Taylor, Rylie Livingston, Isobel Daniels, and Jacob Daniels, two sisters, Debra Pyle and Beth Guillespie, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Mark had been an arborist for Asplundh for many years.  He enjoyed music, playing guitar, hiking, watching Steelers football, and was a talented woodworker. 

In accordance with Mark’s wishes, he will be cremated and no services are being planned at this time. 

The GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 117 Blackhawk Road, Beaver Falls, was honored to assist Mark’s family during this time.

 

Gerald L. Young (1926-2024)

Gerald L. Young, 98, of Raccoon Township passed away on November 14th, 2024. 
He was born on April 15th, 1926, the son of the late Everett and Martha (Graham) Young. 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Selick) Young, an infant son, David, his siblings: Dorothy, Pete, Betty, Jean, Graham, Richard, Donna, Edra and Joanne; and a son-in-law, Joe D. McPherson. 
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law: Patricia McPherson and Cathy (Gus) Eaton,  three cherished grandchildren, Katie (Marshall) Foster, Chelsey (Eric) Eaton, Elijah (Amanda) Eaton and three great grandchildren, Kellan, Cheyenne and Sophia. Gerald was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the military police as a Sargent. 
He took great pride in farming and had a passion for agriculture. He learned hard work at a young age and instilled that ethic within his family. 
He was also a driver for the Port Authority meeting many people throughout his working years. 
He was also involved in the Beaver County Antique Association having served as a past president and as a member.

Rochester crash sends at least one person to hospital

(Rochester, Pa) A crash took place in Rochester Sunday evening shortly after 8pm.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Rhode Island Avenue and West Washington Street.

At least two vehicles were involved and we have confirmed at least one person was transported to the hospital by ambulance from the scene.

Fire crews called to New Brighton Apartment building

(New Brighton, Pa) – Fire crews were dispatched to Brightwood Manor Apartments in New Brighton Sunday evening around 8pm.

Crews were at a building where a previous fire left an apartment boarded up. The scene was cleared before 9pm.

We have no further details at this time.

Boswell kicks 6 field goals and the Steelers bottle up Lamar Jackson in 18-16 win over the Ravens

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Chris Boswell tied a franchise record with six field goals and the Pittsburgh Steelers limited Lamar Jackson and the NFL’s top-ranked offense in an 18-16 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers (8-2) won their fifth straight behind Boswell and a defense that never let Jackson, Derrick Henry or the rest of the offense get into a rhythm, opening up a little breathing room atop the AFC North. The Ravens were held to season lows in points and yards and while turning it over three times to fall to 7-4.

Ellwood City Comes Up Short To South Park 28-7

Only one game stood between the Ellwood City Wolverines football team and a trip to Acrisure Stadium next Saturday for a chance at AA WPIAL Gold. On Friday night the Wolverines faced their toughest challenge of the season when they faced off against the South Park Eagles. Ellwood City came into the game with a perfect record. While South Park only lost one game back in week 1 of the season.

The Wolverines started the game red hot, when Chris Smiley hit Dailonn Currie for an 18 yard touchdown pass. Giving them a 7-0 lead only forty five seconds into the game. On Ellwood City’s second drive Chris Smiley threw an interception to Nathan Walz that was returned all the way down to the Wolverines two yard line. Two plays later Colsen Heynes found the end zone, tying the game at 7-7. Later in the first half South Park’s Eric Doerue found pay dirt scoring on a long run and that gave the Eagles a 14-7 lead at halftime.

South Park’s Sophomore running back Colsen Heynes added to their lead early in the third quarter by taking a handoff and going 28 yards for another Eagles touchdown. Putting his team up 21-7. Ellwood City who haven’t played from behind all season was having no success on offense. The Eagles would add on again later in the third quarter when Eric Doerue found the end zone for his second touchdown of the evening, increasing their lead to 28-7. The clock was no longer on the Wolverines side and desperation started to set in. In the fourth quarter while attempting to comeback Chris Smiley threw another interception, this time to Kenyan Brown. South Park was able to run the clock out and they would take the victory over Ellwood City 28-7.

The South Park Eagles will advance to Acrisure Stadium next weekend for a chance at WPIAL Gold. They will face off with Seton LaSalle for the WPIAL AA Championship. The Ellwood City Wolverines have been eliminated from playoff contention.

 

Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schimdt nots that a recount for the vote in the United States Senate in Pennsylvania will occur, being the eighth recount after a Pennsylvania election

(Pennsylvania) According to Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schimdt, since the upcoming votes are being retallied for the 2024 election result for the United States Senator in Pennsylvania between Democrat Bob Casey and Republican David McCormick, this is one of only eight times this has happened. Schimdt notes that the previous instance of counting votes a second time for an election also involved McCormick and his opponent Dr. Mehmet Oz in 2022. Schmidt says that November 20th, will be the date when the tallying will begin again, finish the counting on November 26th, as well as Pennsylvania counties getting their results reported to the Department of State on November 27th by noon, the same day that Pennsylvanians can see the results online.
