Edward A. “Ed” Spade (1942-2024)

Edward A “Ed” Spade, 82, of New Sewickley Township, passed away on November 18th, 2024.

He was born in Rochester on June 19th, 1942, the son of the late Floyd and Gladys (Bard) Spade. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Marshall and James Spade. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Spade; his son, Jason Spade; two sisters, JoAnn (Sid) Martin and Linda (Dave) Droz; three brothers-in-law, Larry, Bill and John (Kim) Kaufman; two sisters-in-law, Linda Rachuba and Joni Piser; special cousins Jim and Dawna Mike; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Edward was a 1960 graduate of Freedom High School, then went on to service in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era.  Ed had a love of classic cars and was a big fan of all the Pittsburgh Sports Teams.

Friends will be received on Friday, November 22nd from 1 p.m. until the time of military honors provided by the Beaver County Special Unit at 5 p.m. in the GABAUER-FUNERAL HOME- 1133 Penn Avenue, New Brighton. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, November 23rd at 10 a.m. at St. Felix Church, part of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 450 13th Street, Freedom. Arrangements have been entrusted to the branch of Gabauer Funeral Homes.

Private interment will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Linda D. Pitini Alberti (1948-2024)

Linda D. Pitini Alberti, 75, of Chippewa Township, passed away on November 17th, 2024.

She was born on December 12th, 1948, in Rochester, the daughter of the late Charles Bostwick and Hilda (Peterson) Penson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Larry. She is survived by her husband, George Alberti; children, Jack (Michelle) Welsh, Ronie Sue (Jay) Molnar, and Keith (Christina) Welsh; step-daughters, Ashley Molnar, Jessica (Jeff) Alberti, and Katie (Scott) Alberti; grandchildren, Timothy (Penny) Welsh, Jon (Drew) Crosby, Abigail (DJ) Crosby, Amanda (Robbie) Molnar, Jonathan Welsh, Jordan Pietrandrea, Christina (Evan) Porco, Ashley Welsh, and Madison Welsh; step granddaughter, Audrey Librich; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Ariel, and AnaHeyla; siblings, (Maureen), Chuck (Toni) Bostwick, Dean (Sue) Bostwick, Bernie (Beth) Bostwick, numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and her feline companion, Precious.

Linda was a graduate of Beaver Area High School and had retired from the former Friendship Ridge as a material manager.  She was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ and was very supportive of her church family.  Most importantly, she enjoyed precious moments spent with family.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, November 20th from 4-8 P.M. in the GABAUER-TODD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES (Branch), 340 Third Street, Beaver.

A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, November 21st at 10 A.M. Arrangements have been entrusted to the branch of Gabauer Funeral Homes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oak Grove Church of Christ, 169 Ashwood Drive, Industry, PA 15052.

Kurt A. Grunert (1933-2024)

Kurt A. Grunert, 91, of Beaver, passed away peacefully on November 16th, 2024 in the comfort of his home.

He was born in Beaver on September 27th, 1933, the son of the late Albert and Irene (Schwartzenau) Grunert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Walter Grunert and Irene Genevie. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edith “Edie” (Stitt) Grunert, children, Carl Phillip (Sara Abigail Smoot) Grunert, Amy Louise (James M.) Shay, and Jordan Bryce (Lynsey) Grunert, grandchildren: Christian (Victoria) Shay, Brittany (Ryan) Brumbaugh, Claire Grunert, Gus Grunert, and Caylee Grunert; a great granddaughter, Chloe Shay and numerous extended family and friends.

Graduating from Carnegie Institute of Technology with degrees in mechanical engineering and electrical engineering, Kurt had a long career with Westinghouse Corporation Electric Standard Control and the Low Voltage Breaker Division culminating with fifty-five patents and after retirement consulted for Eaton Corporation and Horton Corporation.  He was a United States Army Engineer Officer in the Reserves from 1955 to 1963, exiting at the rank of Captain.  ​​He was a part-time instructor at Geneva College for fifty-six years in the Engineering Department.  He was a longtime member of First Christian Church of Beaver and more recently attended the Assembly of God.

Friends will be received on Thursday, November 21st from 2 P.M. until time of services at 4 P.M. in the Gabauer-Todd Funeral Home and Cremation Services (Branch), 340 Third Street, Beaver.

Private interment will be in Beaver Cemetery.

Lifeflight called in for Aliquippa Crash

(Aliquippa, Pa) A lifeflight was been called in for a crash at the intersection of Kennedy Boulevard and Grand Avenue in Aliquippa Tuesday afternoon.

Multiple people were attended to for injuries, with at least one being transported by lifeflight.

The crash happened shortly after 3pm.

Kennedy Boulevard was shut down in both directions while multiple departments worked at the scene.

(Harrisburg, PA) The 2024 presidential election is over, but in Harrisburg, employees from the Pennsylvania Department of State used a risk-limiting audit to find out which ballots cast in that election will receive an audit, which involves using ten sided dice to determine that result at random. On Monday, Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schimdt talked about how the state of Pennsylvania uses their techniques to certify ballots for a small percent of them to confirm accuracy.

(Bethlehem, PA) Pennsylvanians that are looking for a career as well as learning from it can take advantage of 2024 National Apprenticeship Week, as the administration of Governor Josh Shapiro is working towards building up opportunities for possible employees as well as watching the evolution of the community of jobs across the state. Secretary of Labor and Industry Nancy Walker at the Apprenticeship PA Collaborative and Expo in Bethlehem talked about how the difference between the unemployment and job frequency can attract people to get accommodated to their place of employment.

Victim of attempted homicide in Aliquippa in critical condition

(Aliquippa, PA) After an attempted homicide in Aliquippa on Sunday night, the victim is now in critical condition. Police confirmed that twenty-five-year-old Javen Alford was transported by flight to Allegheny General Hospital after getting shot in the back with the bullet going through his chest when officers went to 400 Superior Avenue, Valley Terrace B Building after 9 p.m. If anyone is aware of information on this incident, the Pennsylvania State Barracks in Beaver is who to contact, and the Pennsylvania State Police are still investigating what occurred. 

Gas prices decreased in Western Pennsylvania this week, according to AAA

(Pennsylvania) In Western Pennsylvania, gas prices continue to go down this week because the average is around $3.37, with a decrease of four cents from the previous week, according to AAA. AAA also notes that at this time last year, the average gas price totaled at around $3.68. According to the report, the average amount of gas you can expect at a gas pump here in Beaver County is about $3.30.

Almost eighty million Americans getting ready to travel both leading up to and shortly after Thanksgiving

According to a release from Jim Garrity, Director of Public Affairs for AAA East Central this week, almost eighty million Americans will be traveling the week of and starting the week after Thanksgiving. An estimate by AAA of travelers that are going greater than or equal to fifty miles away from home, according to Garrity is 79.9 million people. The number from the previous year went up by 1.7 million, while back in 2019, the present total was two million more. According to INRIX, which investigates data in transportation, notes that Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon are the worst days to travel over Thanksgiving, and compared to last year, Gerrity asserts that gas prices went down, and on Thanksgiving Day, an average of $3.26 was calculated nationally.
