Pennsylvania oil and gas violations through acts from PennEnergy Resources, LLC will be handled by court

(Washington) According to a release from United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan in Washington on Tuesday, the Justice Department, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) made an agreement with PennEnergy Resources LLC (PennEnergy) to resolve alleged violations from Clean Air Act and Pennsylvania Air Pollution Control Act for involvement with operations of the company’s oil and gas in Pennsylvania. When the court accepts this offer, PennEnergy will establish projects to make vapor control systems better, more accessible, and to change how they work. Olshan states that this will decrease emissions of carbon dioxide released as methane each year by 8,200 tons as well as the elimination of more than 150 tons of volatile organic compound.

PennDOT announces work in I-376 Parkway West today, weather permitting for work to inspect signs

(Pittsburgh, PA) If weather permits, occurring today, Wednesday, December 11th, PennDOT District 11 will have lane restrictions on I-376 (Parkway West) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. after a recent announcement. Work to inspect the signs of I-376 in between Campbells Run Road in both directions and the interchange of I-79 and the ramps going north and south from I-376 going east. The ramps will continue to stay open as work for a project to be finished in 2025 will try to help to preserve I-376 Parkway West.

Four suspects facing charges after all stole money from vehicles in seven Pennsylvania counties, including Beaver County

(Harrisburg, PA) According to a release from Attorney General Michelle Henry in Harrisburg on Tuesday, four suspects are facing charges after “smash and grab” style thefts from vehicles in seven Pennsylvania counties, including here in Beaver County. 

Herny confirmed that 32 year-old Amed Henderson and 32 year-old Shaquan Moore, both of Pittsburgh, as well as 43-year-old Theresa Imel of Dravosburg and 33-year-old Elizabeth Madden, of Elizabeth, stole credit and bank cards, checks, and identification cards to get money from the bank accounts of sixty-eight victims. Henry states that all four are charged with corrupt organizations, conspiracy, identity theft, forgery, and related offenses. 

Montgomery Locks and Dam in Monaca will be given a new lock chamber after contract of $770 million was received for its building

(Monaca, PA) According to a release from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, a contract of nearly $770 million was given to build a lock chamber at the Montgomery Locks and Dam in Monaca. The release states that the height and width of the chamber will be 110 feet by 600 feet and that the Trumbull-Brayman Construction Corporation, Joint Venture of Pittsburgh received this contract by the district. The Upper Ohio Navigation Project will help to install chambers in the Monaca Montgomery Locks and Dam as well as the others in Moon Township and in Emsworth, along with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers receiving over a billion dollars thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Residents in Beaver Borough receiving tax increase of 56% on property

(Beaver Borough, PA) On Tuesday evening, the council of the Beaver Borough held a meeting to announce that residents in Beaver Borough will receive a 56% tax increase on property for next year. There were several reasons that this occurred, which include the council stating that a hillside needs to be repaired while the pool house will undergo renovations, which will earn it more money. According to the council, an average jump of $500 that year will be the increase that people who own homes in the area will be expected to see in 2025. 

 

Aliquippa Police investigating incident in which a victim was shot in the hand

(Aliquippa, PA) According to a Facebook post from the City of Aliquippa Police Department on Tuesday, that same night at 6:35 p.m., police went to the 1800 block of Main Street for the report of a person shot in the hand. The post also noted that police and EMS helped and the victim, who is now in stable condition, was taken to the hospital in a vehicle that was private.  That is all the details we have at this time, and the incident is still being investigated. Aliquippa Police investigating shots fired incident that hit a vehicle and two apartments

(Aliquippa, PA) According to a Facebook post from the City of Aliquippa Police Department on Tuesday, that same night, at around 7:30 p.m. police went to the 300 block of Linmar Terrace for the report of multiple shots fired. Multiple shots hit two apartments and a vehicle. After video footage was looked over, two shooters approached behind the apartments from the hill around Green Street. Gas prices increase in Western Pennsylvania this week by thirteen cents, according to AAA East Central’s gas price report

(Beaver County, PA) Gas prices are thirteen cents higher in Western Pennsylvania this week at around $3.44 a gallon, according to AAA East Central’s gas price report. The report states that last week in Western Pennsylvania, the average price was around $3.31 for a gallon of gas, while a year ago, the price was nine cents higher at around $3.53. The report also notes that the average price that you can expect for an unleaded gallon of gas here in Beaver County is about $3.33.

Conway fire chief future still in question after non-unanimous vote was taken at a department meeting

(Conway, PA) On Tuesday, a meeting was arranged regarding the future of Daniel Bryne, the fire chief of Conway, who got suspended last week even though allegations were not seen as criminal against him. Bob Skocich, the president of the department, held a vote with twenty-eight members that did not turn out unanimous, but an overwhelming amount of the voters chose one side of the decision about what will happen to Bryne. According to Skocich, he is going to speak to the attorney of the department involving the “executive” decision, but he did not have any other comments on the matter at this time. This is a developing story, and we will have updates as soon as they are available. 

James Edward White (1947-2024)

James Edward White, 77, of Pulaski Township passed away on December 10th, 2024 in his residence. He was born on February 14, 1947, the son of the late Vernon C. Harrison and Marian Dickinson Harrison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Beverly A. Connor and Wendy L. Longfellow. He is survived by two nieces, Kelly A. Riddell and her companion life mate Daniel J. Stevenson of Pulaski Township, Tracy L. Schroeder and her husband Michael of Supply, North Carolina, a great-niece, Julieanna Moore and her husband Colton of Germany and three great-nephews, Devon Taylor and his wife Alana of Japan, Kyle Herr and his wife Olivia and Jayden Herr of North Carolina. James was a former employee of Valley Refuse and was a member of the Phoenix Center of Rochester and New Brighton United Methodist Church. Friends will be received on Friday, December 13th from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. at the William Murphy Funeral Home, Inc., 349 Adams Street, Rochester with the service following at 8:15 P.M. Officiating will be Rev. Beebe Harding. The family wishes memorial contributions to be made to the Mental Health Association, 105 Brighton Avenue, Rochester, PA 15074.
