Trees Knock out Power in Portions of New Brighton

(New Brighton, Pa.) Trees that fell on power lines and a vehicle in New Brighton late Sunday evening in the area of 5th street hill and 13th Ave in New Brighton and knock the power out for a good portion of that area and the Oak Hill section of New Brighton. Duquesne Light reported that over 300 customers were without power. As of 5:45 AM Monday morning Duquesne Light crews were still on the scene repairing the lines on 5th Street hill just past the Hunkey Alley section of town. Power was restored to some sections of town shortly after 3 AM Monday morning.
Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano is checking this morning to see how many customers are still without power.

As of 5:45 AM Monday morning 5th Street was still closed from 7th to 11th Avenue.

UPDATE 7:20 AM: Due to the heavy rain and high winds, and downed trees as of 6:50 a.m. 693 customers in New Brighton are without power.  Brighton township and Economy Borough each have 1 outage, New Sewickley township also has 1.

Duquesne Light officials are working to restore power and an update will be available this morning.
UPDATE 7:45 AM:  All power in New Brighton is restored according to Duquesne Light.

Dr. Maroon and Jeff Bost Discuss Concussions and What to Do If You Get One, On This Week’s “Living Well”

(Beaver Falls, Pa. ) Show hosts Dr. Joseph Maroon and Jeff Bost, PA, received a question about concussions and if you get one what is the best way to go about getting proper care.  Most people link concussions with sports and that is not necessarily always true. People get concussions in everyday life. Maybe a fall in your home, bumping your head off the rafters in your basement or even doing yard work. Dr. Maroon and Bost will discuss what you should do if you are diagnosed with a concussion so that you have a full recovery.

VIDEO: Midland Innovation & Technology Charter School Set To Start Classes On September 6

“I believe in life-long learning, because you never know enough.”

Those words came from Midland Innovation & Technology Charter School CEO Dr. Chester Thompson, who joined Matt Drzik on the July 15 edition of A.M. Beaver County to talk about the ever-nearing opening of MITCS. Classes are set to begin on September 6 (the day after Labor Day), and recent information sessions have been held at the newly built facilities on South 12th Street in Midland.

Despite the lights getting greener, Dr. Thompson says that there is still opportunities for students and teachers to become part of MITCS: “We’re continuously building out our staff, and we’re actually near completion of that…we continuously seek talented individuals who will be a good part of our culture, and the key thing is we want them to be excited.”

The next information session for the MITCS will take place at the school building on 12th Avenue in Midland on Thursday, July 21 at 6:30 PM. You can also check out their website for more information on available classes, social media links and upcoming events.

Central Valley Hires Five New Teachers and Approves Special Education Plan

(Center, Twp., Pa.) Central Valley School Board, at Thursday night’s meeting hired  five new teachers, and accepted the resignation of the boys tennis coach. Dr. Amy D’Antonio was hired as the team doctor for the football team for the upcoming season.

Jared Harden was hired  as the boy’s assistant  soccer coach. He will be paid a stipend of $1,530.
The district’s new special education plan will be sent to PDE by July 30, 2022.
Superintendent Dr. Nick  Perry welcomed the new staff members , and added that the district needs paraprofessionals, custodial, grounds, cafeteria and general workers.
Cypher and Cypher was hired to the district’s audits for the years ending 6/30 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Battling San Rocco’s Festa Case Moved to Orphan’s Court

Beaver, Pa.) The San Rocco Foundation  alleges that they don’t have access to financial records or funds  that the San Rocco Cultural  Committee is in possession of, according to Attorney John Havey. An injunction hearing was held on Thursday morning in Judge  James J. Ross’s chambers at the Beaver County Courthouse.
Judge Ross ruled on at the hearing that the case should be moved to Beaver County Orphan’s Court with Court of Common Pleas Judge Dale Fouse. According to Attorney Havey, who is the legal council for the foundation, Pa Attorney General Josh Shapiro needs to be notified of the action and a Havey said that the injunction will be filed on Monday, July 18, 2022, with Judge Fouse.
The San Rocco Cultural Committee was formed in 1925 and  the 2 groups merged in 2018. Both groups are planning events in Center Township. Friday, August 13 to Sunday August 15, 2022  The traditional mass at St. Titus  Roman Catholic Church is on  Sunday morning , and the groups will parade through Sheffield Terrace separately.

Aliquippa Man Leads Police in Chase on Parkway West, Ends with Crash in Downtown Pittsburgh

(Pittsburgh, Pa.) An Aliquippa man who was wanted on multiple warrants led police in a pursuit on the Parkway West last night before crashing in downtown Pittsburgh.
Pennsylvania State Police said say that 43-year-old Lee Chavez, of Aliquippa, was speeding when the chase began after Troopers initially attempted to pull him over.
During the chase Chavez was speeding down the ramp on the Parkway and took a corner too hard, hopping the curb, nearly hitting a fire hydrant, and crashing and that’s where the car came to a stop on Fort Duquesne Boulevard.
After the crash, Chavez tried to run into the parking garage underneath Gateway Center and police were able to arrest him after tasering him.
State police say that Chavez did have prior charges including aggravated assault.
Thankfully no one was injured and Chavez was taken to jail.

The chase started because Chavez had expired registration.

Beaver County Unity Games Takes Place Tomorrow at CCBC

(Center Twp., Beaver County, Pa.) Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano is reporting that the Beaver County Unity Games will take place this tomorrow from 9 a.m. to noon at the baseball field on the campus of CCBC.
Shon Owens , one of the organizers , told Giordano that the event is a fun filled day to build and maintain community and law enforcement relationships throughout Beaver County. Youth in grades 8-12 along with police/first responders will compete in fun-filled field activities alongside each other for prizes.
Everyone is welcome to come out and support this annual event.
There is no admission, and there will be food and prizes
