The very first “Ask The Commissioners” of 2016 is set to air Thursday on Teleforum with Mike Romigh. It’ll also be the the first “Ask The Commissioners” featuring the new county board of commissioners. It’ll also be the first “Ask The Commissioners” in which Republicans have held a majority on the board. Democratic incumbent Tony Amadio will join Republican Dan Camp for the program, where it’s a tradition for Beaver County Radio listeners to call in and ask the commissioners anything they want to know about county government. New commissioners chairman Sandie Egley will not be there due to a scheduling conflict. Some of the topics that are expected to come up during Thursday’s show include the county budget, county employee salaries and the current hiring freeze. Gov. Wolf To Ask State Lawmakers For Another $200 Million For Public Schools
Democratic Governor Tom Wolf says he’ll ask the Republican-controlled Legislature for another $200 million for public schools next year. Meanwhile, he’s still fighting for more school aid in this year’s budget. Wolf made the announcement a week before he delivers next year’s budget proposal to lawmakers.
Criminal Record Erasure Bill Awaiting Gov. Wolf’s Signature
A bill that would help Pennsylvanians convicted of minor offenses to have their criminal record erased has been approved by the state legislature. The bill is now on its way to Governor Wolf for his signature.
Surge in Heroin Overdoses Reported in Western Pennsylvania
Western Pennsylvania authorities warn they’re seeing a surge of overdoses, possibly tied to a batch of heroin. At least a dozen non-fatal ODs have been reported in Washington County since last weekend, with 15 similar cases in Cambria County since Monday.
Sid’s Three Comes Naturally
Sidney Crosby registered his first natural hat trick in more than five years to lead the Penguins to their fourth straight win 6-5 over the Ottawa Senators. Crosby has reached the 20-goal mark on the strength of a goal in each of his last eight home games.The Penguins will in Florida for the weekend. They will be at Tampa Bay Friday Night. Saturday night they will play the Florida Panthers. The Pens and Panthers on WBVP-WMBA pregame show is 7pm.
It Rains Threes
They may have been on the losing end of their games, but two Beaver County High Schools players had outstanding games. Blackhawk beat Beaver 72-61 however, Beaver’s Dante Anzevino drained six threes. New Brighton’s Ronald Debo had five threes in a 89-69 loss to Summit Academy.
Stabler Had Brain Injury
Researchers at Boston University say former Oakland Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler had the brain disease CTE. Stabler died of Colon Cancer at the age of 69 in July. The New York Times reports that Stabler had high Stage 3 CTE. CTE has been found in the brains of dozens of former football players
Roger Federe Sidlined
Tennis star Roger Federer has had knee surgery. The 34-year-old listed the surgery on his web site. The statement didn’t say which knee was involved in the procedure. It was a success and was done Friday. That was the day after his lost to Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open Semi Final.
Fuyrk Faces Surgery
Former U S Open Champion Jim Furyk will miss about three months on the tour. He will have surgery on a troublesome wrist. The wrist has not healed. It has sidelined Fuyrk since mid September.
