Police say one man beat another with a skillet when they argued about doing the dishes at a charity-run transitional housing facility in Butler County. The Butler Eagle reports 26-year-old Joseph Parker faces a hearing March 28 on a charge of simple assault. The charges stem from an incident Feb. 18 at a home run by The Lighthouse Foundation. Police say 23-year-old Randy Fenstermaker Jr. told them that Parker didn’t like how Fenstermaker was washing the dishes so Parker grabbed a skillet and hit him in the head until it broke.

Free Agency Is Coming
NFL free agency begins at 4-pm Wednesday. On Monday the Steelers signed two players. Special team captain and safety Robert Golden and fourth wide receiver Darius Heyword Bey agreed to three year deals. Off the field, wide receiver Antonio Brown announced on ESPN he will be contestant on ABC’s “Dancing with The Stars” The contest begins on March 21st.
Dennis Nichols Speaking Out, Responds To Accusations of Current Board of Commissioners
Former Beaver County Commissioner Dennis Nichols is speaking out, and responding to accusations from the present board of commissioners and financial officer that the former board didn’t manage county finances very well, which they say contributed to a potential 17-million-dollar deficit. Nichols that’s not true, that he and former commissioners chairman Tony Amadio and former commissioner Joe Spanik managed are not guilty of mismanagement. Nichols – who recently changed his party affiliation to Democrat – is running for State Representative in the 15th District.
Double Shooting In Beaver Falls Under Investigation
New details are being released regarding a weekend shooting in Beaver Falls. Police Chief Charles Jones tells Beaver County Radio News that the shooting did not occur at Harmony Dwellings, as was earlier reported. Actually it happened early Saturday morning at an underage party in the 1000 block of 10th Avenue. Chief Jones tells me two juveniles were shot. One was treated and released for chest injuries…and the other victim – who was shot in the arm and leg – remains in the hospital and is listed in stable condition. Chief Jones says they are interviewing two persons of interest, but are getting limited cooperation from witnesses, so anybody who has any information on this shooting, please call the Beaver Falls police department at (724) 846-7000.
Unstable Road Causes Traffic Disruption In Hopewell
A section of Steuer Lane at Kane Road in Hopewell Township is closed to vehicle traffic indefinitely. Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano reports that, according to township manager Norm Krause Jr., the status of the road’s condition – which is unstable – will be discussed at next Monday’s township workshop meeting.
Wolf To Sign Executive Order
Governor Tom Wolf today is set to sign an executive order ensuring that many state employees and state-contracted employees make at least $10.15 an hour. It is unclear exactly which workers the order would apply to. Pennsylvania is among 20 states with minimum wages at the federal minimum of $7.25 an hour.
Penguins Rebound
After a disappointing loss at home to the lowly Calgary Flames, The penguins routed the New Jersey Devils 6-1 Sunday in Newark. Evgeni Malkin lead the way with two goals. Matt Cullen, Nick Bonino, Ryan Rust, and Scott Wilson also scored for the Pens. The Penguins travel to the Barclay Center Tuesday night to face the Islanders.
Pirates Loose A Wild One To The Astros.
Behind two home runs from prospect Matt Duffy, the Houston Astros split squad out lasted the Pirates in a spring training game Sunday. A.J. Reed had three hits. Other minor league prospects Jake Marisnick and Tyler White also homered against five Pirates pitchers. Jeff Locke gets his second start of the spring as the Pirates play the Philadelphia Phillies in Bradenton this afternoon.
College Basketball Results
Penn State ended the regular season with a 86-79 double overtime win over Illinois at the Bryce Jordan Center on Sunday. PSU was paced by Shep Garner’s 22-points and Brandon Taylor’s 21 points and 11 rebounds. With the win, Penn State has earned their first bye in the program history. They will face Ohio State in the second round of the Big Ten tournament Thursday evening. In women action. George Washington won their second in a row Atlantic 10 championship. They edged Duquesne 63-60 behind Hannah Schaibe’s 17 points. George Washington gets the the automatic bid to the NCAA Women Tournament. The Lady Dukes have 27 wins. They will watch tonight to see if they get an at large bid. The Robert Morris Lady Colonials have advanced to the semi-finals of the NEC Tournament. They beat Farleigh Dickenson Sunday 68-59.
Warriors Stub Their Toe
The L A Lakers are the second worse team in the NBA (12-51). The Golden State Warriors are having a record season (56-6). The two teams met Sunday afternoon at the Staple Center in L. A. Despite the huge difference in talent, The Lakers routed the Warriors 112-95. The Lakers shot 47-percent from the floor and 21 of 22 from the foul line. The Lakers held the high flying Warriors of Curry, Thompson, and Green to just 42 points
