Former Beaver Falls City Manager Steve Johnston should find out today what his new officials job title will be. Johnston recently stepped down from his former position to move into the city’s Code Department. In an interview with Beaver County Radio Newsman Pat Septak, Johnston said he’s now in charge of tearing down blighted buildings in the city.  He says while he did enjoy being the city manager for the last four years, he won’t miss his old job due to all the accompanying stress. City Council is expected to vote today on a new job title for him.

Beaver County is set to receive some grant money through the State Department of Environmental Protection to monitor and treat the Zika mosquito population in the county. Susan Boser, water resource educator with the Penn State Extension, made that announcement on Teleforum With Mike Romigh this morning. She says the funds will enable them to set a few more traps and monitor a few more sites throughout the county. She says they are in the beginning stages of applying for that grant.

A woman was rescued from her vehicle after a four-car accident in New Castle this morning. According to New Castle police, the woman was driving down  a hill on East Washington Street when she ran into the back of a tractor trailer. The impact caused her car to veer off the road, go airborne and crash into a parked car. Her vehicle then rolled onto its roof. The woman was trapped for about 30 minutes. The New Castle Fire Department used airbags to lift her vehicle before freeing her. The woman was conscious when she was taken to UPMC Jameson Hospital. Her name and condition have not been released.

The Aliquippa Diversity Council wants to put an end to gun violence. Residents interested in starting a crime watch are being asked by the group to be at Lefty Cepull Field at 6:00 tonight. Catherine Colalella is the group’s founder and she’s also a school board member. She tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak that this call for action was sparked – in part – by the two recent shootings in Aliquippa, which occurred about a week apart.

There were a couple of fatal freak accidents in Beaver County over the weekend. In Economy borough, 64-year-old Richard Gala of Economy was on a tractor on Ridge Road Extension Saturday morning  when it rolled backwards over a wall. Gala was pinned underneath the tractor and died of his injuries. In Monaca, 52-year-old David Stepek of Enon Valley was fixing a neighbor’s car on Pennsylvania Avenue Saturday when the jack slipped. The vehicle fell, pinning Stepek underneath and killing him.
