Blackhawk Girls, Beaver Falls Boys Look To Advance At Sharon

Beaver County Radio invades Sharon High School tonight for a PIAA second-round basketball doubleheader.

At 5:00pm the Blackhawk Lady Cougars (17-9) attempt to get revenge against District 10 champion Villa Maria (19-5), who beat Blackhawk in last year’s PIAA playoffs. Pre-game is at 4:30.

Then at 8:00 the Beaver Falls Tigers (13-9) look to extend Doug Biega’s final run as they face the Boys’ District 10 Champion Erie Strong Vincent (24-3). Pre-game for game #2 is at 7:30.

Steelers to sign Justin Hunter

The Pittsburgh Steelers added depth to the wide receiver position today by signing  a former Buffalo Bill who is a second round pick in Justin Hunter. While Hunters numbers aren’t significant since entering the league in 2013 he will provide the down field threat the Steelers desperately need with the departure of Marcus Wheaton for Chicago.

In other news after visiting with the Steelers and Jets Dont’a Hightower has opted to stay with the New England Patriots . His agent announced he will be signing a contract worth 43.5 million over four years with  19 million guaranteed.

Beaver County Commissioners Getting Some Financial Help From State

Beaver County has been awarded a two-hundred-thousand-dollar grant from the state for an early intervention plan to place the county on sound financial footing, according to Beaver County Radio’s Greg Benedetti. Financial administrator Ricardo Luckow said the grant will enable the commissioners to establish fiscal management strategies in dealing with the budget and projected costs.

Woman, 9 Dogs Rescued From Burning Home In Beaver Falls

A woman and her dogs are safe after firefighters rescued them from a burning home in Beaver Falls last night. Crews were called to the house in the 1800-block of Third Avenue after the woman called 911 saying she was trapped on the second floor.Firefighters used a ladder to get her down. Nine dogs were also rescued from the home. One of them reportedly bit a firefighter who was trying to help it. The fireman was treated at the scene and and is said to be doing okay this morning. The rescued woman was treated for smoke inhalation and none of the dogs were hurt. Officials believe the fire may have started in the kitchen.

Lincoln Park Teacher Found Dead After Police Launch Child Pornography Investigation

A Beaver County performing arts teacher who also worked on the Gateway Clipper cruise was found dead in his Crafton home on Monday. Police say 47-year-old Shaun Rolly was under investigation for alleged sexual abuse of children. Police say Rolly was in possession of thousands of images of child pornography. Rolly was a teacher for the last decade at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in Midland.
Crafton police started the investigation on Saturday after obtaining two CDs that allegedly belonged to Rolly and were filled with pornographic images of children 10 to 12 years old. Allegheny County police investigators then executed a search warrant at Rolly’s home on Johnston Street and, according to court documents, found 13 more CDs next to his bed.  On Monday, police were called back to Rolly’s home and confirmed he had committed suicide. Charges had not been filed at the time of his death.

Beaver County Advanced Placement Biology Students View Heart Transplant

Five AP Biology students of Christina Signorelli  went to see how a heart surgery is performed at Allegheny General Hospital recently, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano.  Allison Kindred, a senior , said Dr. Stephen A. Bailey  replaced a man’s heart valve in approximately 4 hours, and the students  were permitted see the entire procedure.  A question and answer period followed. Dr. Bailey  is the division director of cardiac surgery at AGH., and  surgical director of cardiac transplantation. Mrs. Signorelli said the students  can take the class for a   college credit and  it will count at the end of the year.  Kindred plans to major in finance at PSU University Park. The students will visit the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium on April 24.

FORMER STEELERS LINEBACKER JARVIS JONES IS NOW A ARIZONA CARDINAL.  HE WAS A STEELERS FIRST ROUND PICK IN 2013 OUT OF GEORGIA. HE NEVER LIVED UP TO HIS POTENTIAL. IN FOUR SEASONS, HE PLAYED IN 50 GAMES.  35 WAS AS A STARTER. HE HAD 125-TACKLES, SIX SACKS, TWO INTERCEPTINS, FOUR FORCED FUMBLES AND THREE FUMBLE RECOVERIES.  THERE IS HAPPY NEWS IN STEELERS NATION.   IT’S MIKE TOMLIN’S 45TH BIRTHDAY.

PENGUINS PLAY THE FLYERS

THE EIGHT DAY FIVE GAME ROAD TRIP FOR THE PENGUINS  ENDS TONIGHT IN PHILADELPHIA.   THE PENS HAVE ACCUMULIATED SEVEN OF EIGHT POINTS SO FAR. THE ONLY BLEMISH WAS A SHOOT OUT LOSS TO CALGARY MONDAY NIGHT.  THE PENS ARE BACK IN SECOND PLACE. WASHINGTON’S ALEX OVECHKIN BROKE A 10-GAME SCORELESS STREAK WITH A GOAL IN THE CAPITALS 4-2 WIN OVER MINNESOTA. THE CAPITALS LEAD THE EASTERN CONFERENCE WITH 97 POINTS. THE PENGUINS HAVE 95.  THE PENGUINS AND FLYERS FROM THE WELLS FARGO CENTER 7pm ON WBVP-WMBA.

WEATHER HAS REEKED HAVOC ON THE PIAA PLAYOFFS IN BASKETBALL, SWIMMING AND BASKETBALL.  THE BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS RESUME THURSDAY.  WBVP-WMBA  WILL HAVE TWO GAMES ON THE AIR.  THE BLACKHAWK GIRLS WILL FACE THE VILLA MARIA GIRLS.  AIR TIME IS 4:30.  AT 7:30 THE BEAVER FALLS  BOYS WILL FACE THE ERIE STRONG VINCENT BOYS.  BOTH GAMES WILL BE AT SHARON HIGH SCHOOL
