Pens Sign Matt Cullen to One year deal.

Pittsburgh PenguinsThe Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed forward Matt Cullen to a one-year, $1 million contract Wednesday for his 20th NHL season. The 39-year-old Cullen helped the Penguins win the Stanley Cup last season.  Are all the pieces of the puzzle back together for another run at the Stanley Cup?? Ambridge Road Closure Begins Today

AMBRIDGE BOROUGH OFFICIALS HAVE  ANNOUNCED THAT CHURCH ST. BETWEEN 11TH AND 14TH STREETS WILL CLOSE TODAY FOR MILLING WORK AND RESURFACING BY FOLINO PAVING.  BEAVER COUNTY RADIO NEWS CORRESPONDENT SANDY GIORDANO REPORTS THAT ALL WORK IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED BY MID-AFTERNOON SATURDAY, WEATHER  PERMITTING.  FOLINO PAVING, CONTRACTOR FOR THE PROJECT,  WILL GO  DOOR TO DOOR WITH NOTICES , AND ‘NO PARKING’ SIGNS WILL BE POSTED. ROAD CLOSURES AND NO PARKING WILL BE ALLOWED THROUGH SUNDAY.

Aliquippa’s B.F. Jones Memorial Library Back On Line Following This Week’s Power Outage

B.F. Jones Memorial Library’s power was back on yesterday afternoon, according to Linda Helms, librarian. According to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano, Helms was at the Aliquippa School Board meeting last night and reported that lightning hit a transformer behind the library causing the outage. On another note, a pilot program from the state will be held at the library entitled READY ROSIE FOR PRESCHOOLERS . The program will be held three times a week. Helms expects preschoolers from throughout the district and parents will attend.

Ben Kennedy gets first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Win in Bristol.

AP904959152305 Ben Kennedy took the lead from William Byron with 20 laps to go in Wednesday night’s UNOH 200 and later withstood an intense six-lap shootout withBrett Moffitt to earn his first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory at Bristol Motor Speedway last night.

With two laps to go, Moffitt, driving the No. 11 Toyota Tundra — the truck piloted earlier this season by Kennedy — gave the Daytona Beach, Florida, native a shot in the bumper, but Kennedy refused to be rattled and stretched his lead to 0.274 seconds at the checkered flag.

Moffitt, who earned a career-best second-place finish, didn’t have quite enough for Kennedy’s No. 33 Chevrolet Silverado when it counted most.

Bucs sweep Giants!!! Keep pace with Cardinals

The Pittsburgh Pirates Finished off a three game sweep of the San Francisco Giants yesterday afternoon and completed their west coast road trip with a 5-1 record and are now one game back of the Cardinals for the second wild card spot and only three games behind the Giants to be the first wild card. The Bucs are off today and start a home stand at PNC Park on Friday night against the Miami Marlins who the Pirates have a one game lead over in the wild card race. Airtime is 6:40 on WBVP/WMBA and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.  The Marlins will send Tom Koehler (9-8, 3.86 ERA) to the hill and the Pirates will start  Gerrit Cole (7-8, 3.25 ERA).

Mike Rossi Holds Press Conference As He Challenges Jim Christiana For 15th District State Rep. Seat

Mike Rossi – the Democratic challenger to Jim Christiana for the 15th district State Representative seat – acknowledges it will be an uphill battle against the incumbent’s financial war chest. He also talked about why people want to see change. Rossi made those comments to Beaver County Radio News following a press conference that he held Tuesday afternoon in front of the Beaver County courthouse.

Aliquippa Council Warns Against Dimantae Bronaugh Donation Scam

Aliquippa councilman Donald Walker issued a statement yesterday afternoon alerting residents that donations aren’t being taken for DiMantae Bronaugh and if residents are approached, please call police immediately. That’s according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. Bronaugh, whose leukemia is out of remission was to begin his senior year and play football for the Quips this season.

Train Blocking All Coraopolis Crossings Fixed

A 200-car train broke down in Coraopolis this morning, blocking all train crossings in the town. The train began moving just before noon today. Six crossings in the town were blocked by the disabled train, including Broadway, Mulberry, Mill, Main, Watt and Thorn streets. The coupling broke on the train and separated a car. To fix the train, all couplings had to be checked. Parts of the trains were stuck in Coraopolis and others in Moon. A medical emergency was reported on the North Side of the tracks while the train was stuck. Paramedics had to ride in a public works pickup truck already on that side of the tracks.

Lincoln Early Learning Center Students Visited Midland Police

Forty children ages 3 through 5 formed a parade with their teachers from the Lincoln Early Learning Center this morning and visited the Midland Police Department. Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano was there as the 2 chiefs, Ron Lutton and Keith McCarthy, along with officers Dave McGee, Shippingport Officer Hannah Jones and Anthony Branchetti greeted the children and they toured the police department. The children presented officers with handmade cards and gift bags . Rachel Book, director of the center, said the children are always talking about the police and “we wanted to say thank you and wanted to do something for you”.
