Brighton Township Woman Accused Of Leaving Heroin Syringes In Reach Of Baby

A Brighton Township woman is charged after she allegedly overdosed and left drug paraphernalia within reach of her 9-month-old baby. Police said they found two uncapped syringes and a burnt spoon within inches of the baby’s crib. 27-year-old Ashley Smiley is charged with endangering the welfare of children. Police and emergency responders went to the home on Dutch Ridge Road after a report of a heroin overdose. When they arrived, Smiley’s boyfriend was performing CPR on her. Medics administered Narcan, and she regained consciousness. According to a criminal complaint, Smiley’s boyfriend said she had injected heroin in the bedroom, which they share with their child. Police say that drug paraphernalia was in reaching distance of the baby’s crib, and an uncapped syringe was found in a trash basket in the room. Smiley was then transported to Heritage Valley-Beaver emergency room for further treatment and evaluation. She is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on April 10th.

What Happened? Forecaster From NWS Explains Why Snow Missed Beaver County

As a major winter storm began to move into the Northeast, many people in Beaver County and in the city of Pittsburgh awoke this morning asking, ” Where’s the snow?” The same powerful nor’easter that’s expected to bring a foot or more of snow to eastern Pennsylvania and points along the mid-Atlantic delivered nothing to our area. This morning, Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak spoke with Lee Hendricks of the National Weather Service and asked him why so many forecasters got it wrong this time. Hendricks called it a “complicated situation” that caused the snow to miss us. But he warned our listeners:  Don’t expect Beaver County to dodge the snow for much longer. He expects to see more widespread snowfall this afternoon.
