Sheary, Penguins Defeat Buffalo In OT

Conor Sheary ended overtime rather quickly, scoring 16 seconds into the frame, and giving the Penguins a 5-4 overtime victory over the Sabres on Tuesday night at PPG Paints Arena. Sheary’s 2nd career OT goal (and 2nd of the night) gives Pittsburgh their 7th straight win over Buffalo, and their 12th in the last 13.

Phil Kessel scored his 4th goal in as many games, while Sidney Crosby tallied his first goal since October 20. Patric Hornqvist also tallied for the Pens, and Matt Murray made 28 saves.

The Penguins are now 6-0-1 at home this year; one of only two teams to not lose in regulation on home ice this season (Islanders). After the game, Crosby spoke about the importance of winning at home:

Crosby, Eichel Looking For Sparks On Ice In Pittsburgh

The Penguins return home to the PPG Paints Arena for a Tuesday night battle with the Buffalo Sabres at 7:00pm.

Pittsburgh enters this game with a record of 5-0-1 at home, including winning their last 5 in a row at the “Paint Can”. However, the team is coming off back-to-back losses to Washington and Nashville over the past weekend and enter this game tied for 2nd in the Metropolitan with the Caps and Blue Jackets.

Buffalo is also entering tonight’s match after back-to-back losses on Friday and Saturday; losing to Florida and Montreal, respectively. The Sabres are 5-9-3 this season for 7th in the Atlantic, and on the road they are 3-5-2 this season.

Two of the biggest stars in tonight’s game are coming in with a cold streak: Sidney Crosby has not scored a goal since October 20, and has 3 points (all assists) in his last 11 games. Buffalo’s Jack Eichel has fared no better, having 3 points (all assists) in his last 8 contests, not having scored a goal since October 21.

Pre-game is at 6:30 on Beaver County Radio.
