The controversy continues today over the remarks a recent graduate of Beaver High School planned to deliver to her classmates at their commencement ceremony earlier this month. Graduation was held at the high school’s football stadium on Friday, June 2. 19-year-old Moriah Bridges, was asked by the president of the senior class to give the final remarks at the ceremony. She did, but she was told by the superintendent of the school district that it would have to be a revised version of her speech. Her family has now hired an attorney. Dr. Carrie Rowe, the superintendent of the Beaver Area School District, issued a statement yesterday, saying she was advised by the district’s solicitor that law clearly states prayer is not permitted at graduation, even if it is student led.
But Jeremy Dys, the family’s attorney, tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak….that is unconstitutional censhorship:
We asked Dys what they are asking for in this case…
We asked Dys what exactly Moriah wanted to say in her speech?
We asked Dys what exactly his client is asking for?
Dys tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak he was shocked when he read the statement issued by the superindent…
We asked Dys what their next step is in this case?
Dys says, as of Wednesday afternoon, he has not heard back from the school district, and if he doesn’t from them soon, a lawsuit may be pending.
