Aliquippa Police apprehend 2 fugitives from Westmoreland County

(Aliquippa, Pa) On Sunday morning a report was issued to Aliquippa Police by the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s office Fugitive Task Force for a LPR hit on a Black Dodge charger  in the area of the city. The report stated that the fugitives were on the run due to an incident that occurred involving an officer being assaulted and for fleeing and eluding police.

According to the report, Aliquippa police spotted the vehicle in the area of the Hollywood Bridge at 16th Street and they were able to identify the vehicle ‘s license plate from information provided by the Fugitive Task Force. Aliquippa Police initiated the traffic stop. The male in the rear seat of  the vehicle was identified as 43 year old Westley Matthews, and the driver was identified as Bobbi Jo Hutchinson. Thier warrants were confirmed by Aliquippa Police. The pair were handed over to the Westmoreland County Fugitive Task Force and transported there to face charges for the incident involving the assault of a Scottsdale Police Officer.

Brian K. Morris (1971-2024)

Brian K. Morris, 52, of Hopewell Township passed away on October 11, 2024, after a year long courageous battle with leukemia.
He was born on November 29, 1971, in Aliquippa, the son of Ronald and Marlene (McClester) Morris. In addition to his parents, Brian is survived by his loving wife of nearly 9 years, Amy (Miller) Morris, who he affectionately called his rock; sister Brianne (Nick) Bergman; in-laws, Mary and Gary Miller; sister-in-law Becky (Robbie) Baron; and nieces and nephews Nicolas, Natalie, and Nathan Baron, and Elizabeth and Margaret Bergman. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and a newborn sister.
Brian was a lover of cars and every dog he ever met, a connoisseur of coffee, beer, and great food who loved music and playing the guitar. He enjoyed his most recent job as a mechanic at Grossi and Associates in Center Township, as well as his recent certification as a realtor at Berkshire Hathaway, a job he always dreamed of having. Brian had a variety of interests, a vast knowledge, and loved late night phone calls with family and friends that could last hours. He loved to travel locally, especially to Hocking Hills State Park, and the quaint town of Ashtabula, Ohio. Most of all, he loved Amy, who he had known since childhood, but reconnected with in 2012, sparking a journey of love between them. Brian will be dearly missed by those whom he loved and who loved him in return.
Funeral arrangements will be private, remembering Brian in the presence of close family and friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Anthony Mastrofrancesco Funeral Home Inc, 2026 McMinn Street, Aliquippa.
Brian’s family would like to thank the loving staff at UPMC Family Hospice, Select Specialty Hospital, Pittsburgh at UPMC Montefiore, and the UPMC Hematology/Oncology services.
In lieu of flowers, Brian’s family wishes to have any memorial donations sent to the Beaver County Humane Society at beavercountyhumanesociety.org or the Family House at familyhouse.org.

Linda J. “Mikki” Smith (1946-2024)

Linda J. “Mikki” Smith, 77, passed away on October 10th, 2024 at Providence Care Center. She was born in Rochester on May 13, 1946, a daughter of the late Percy Alford Sr. and Susie (Crews) Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Ernestine, Alma, Gladys, Etheleen, and Doris Jean; and brothers: Manny, Vonqray, Larry, Rodger, Elmer, and Percy Jr; as well as her great grandson Curt Walker.

She is survived by her partner of 50 years, Dorothy Green, their children Ruffin and Lisa (Donald) Green, a son, Donavan McFraizier, grandchildren; Latasha, Quentin, Ruphene, and Diana; great grandchildren Brandon and Deasha; sisters-in-law: Pauline and Hannah and a host of nieces and nephews.

Linda worked for the Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan for more than 25 years.  She enjoyed spending her days with her life time partner, Dorothy, Deasha, and their dog Crystal. Linda was the loudest Steeler fan in any room and loved to have a good time with her family and friends.

To honor Linda’s wishes, there will be no ceremony. Arrangements have been entrusted to the branch of Huntsman Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Alice J. Lewis (1929-2024)

Alice J. Lewis, 95, of Beaver, formerly of Baden, passed away on October 6, 2024.
She was born on July 15, 1929, in Fairmont, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Wallace and Dove Smouse. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Loren J. Lewis, Sr., along with siblings and their spouses, W. Millard (Mary) Smouse, Doris (John) Steele, Martha (Tony) Cutone, and Lawrence (Blanche) Smouse. She is survived by her sons, Loren (Magdalena) Lewis, of Columbia, Maryland and Robert (Patricia) Lewis of Beaver, grandchildren: Erika (Brian) Echelmeyer, Ana “Marcy” (Drew) Beard, and Damian “Lenny” (Jamie) Lewis; and great-grandchildren, Connor, and Emmit Echelmeyer, Miles Beard, and Khloe, and Harper Lewis.Alice was Methodist by faith.
In accordance with Alice’s wishes, all services were private.

James “Jim” Verrico (1929-2024)

James (Jim) J. Verrico, 95, of East Rochester, passed away on October 2, 2024.
She was born on September 21, 1929 in Rochester, he was a son of the late James and Genevieve Verrico. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Joyce Ann Verrico, brothers, Emmerick, Louis, Philip, Patsy and John, sisters, Genevieve Beckert, Mary Louise Fusco and Jeanette Lombardo. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Verrico of East Rochester, his sons, Ronald Verrico of Brighton Township, Philip (Becky) Verrico of Ellwood City, and James R. (Teena) Verrico of Center Township, grandchildren: Melissa Bruno, Heather Verrico, Ronald J. Verrico, Jr., Vincenzo Verrico, Gianna Verrico and Brooke Verrico; great grandchildren, Megan and Damian, and numerous nieces and nephews. James was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked 4 decades in the steel industry and retired from Pittsburgh Bridge and Iron after 33 years. In his spare time, he loved to travel to different casinos and tend to his garden. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed supporting his grandchildren at their sporting events and school activities. He was a member of Saint Cecilia Roman Catholic Church of Rochester. In accordance with James’ wishes, all services were private.
He will be interred at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, on October 25, 2024 at 2 p.m. with Full Military Rites.

Marla Chambers McClain (Passed on September 29, 2024)

Marla Chembars McClain, 53, of Monaca, passed away on September 29, 2024. Marla was a devoted mother, loving wife, and compassionate friend whose warmth and kindness touched everyone around her.

Marla is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas McClain Jr., and her son, Christian McClain, who was the light of her life. She is also survived by her parents, Frank and Evelyn Chembars, her sisters, Julia Metz and her husband Bill, and Rebecca Chembars and her husband John Hayden, as well as her niece, Laura Brightbill and her husband Zac, and her nephew, Justin Gooding.

Marla graduated from Center Senior High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from Edinboro University, followed by a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Her career was marked by her dedication to education, having spent many years working in the Pittsburgh Public Schools before transitioning to her role at the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. Marla’s commitment to making a difference in the lives of others was evident in every endeavor she undertook.

A resident of Monroeville, Pennsylvania, Marla had an unwavering love for animals. She had a special gift for taking in those in need, often filling her home with pets that she cherished dearly. Her passion for caring for all creatures extended to her particular obsession with turtles, which brought her immense joy.

A celebration of Marla’s life will be held at Simpson Funeral & Cremation Services in Monaca. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, October 17 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and again from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., where all are invited to share their memories and honor her legacy. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the local humane society in Marla’s memory.

Marla will be deeply missed, but her love and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Caroline M. Smith (1940-2024)

Caroline M. Smith, 84, formerly of New Brighton, passed away on October 9, 2024 at Rochester Manor & Villa.

She was born on January 2, 1940, in Calcutta, Ohio, the daughter of the late Donald and Virginia (Irwin) Boso. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Larry Boso, Donald Boso, Jr., and Kenny Boso.

She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Frank Smith, his children, Kelvin Smith and Gail (Russell) Davis, grandchildren, Russell (Shana) Davis Jr., Justin Davis, Jashua Davis, and Ashley (Mike) Gable, great grandchildren, Gavin Davis, Travis Davis, Ben Davis, Henry Davis, and Evi Davis, as well as her siblings, Phil (Darla) Boso, Virginia Anderson, and Diane (Rick) Brenman.

Caroline was a homemaker who devoted her life to her family.
