Ryan Matsook Talks About New Role As Western Beaver AD On Sports Slam

After a banner year that saw him coach the Beaver Falls Tigers to their first WPIAL title since 1984 and their first PIAA gold in football, Ryan Matsook left his position as BF’s head coach in March, and is now the new Athletic Director at Western Beaver High School in Industry.

Matsook phoned in to the Saturday Sports Slam on July 22 to discuss with Matt Drzik and Greg Benedetti about his new role, including what his duties are in helping Western Beaver Athletics, the similarities in his current and past jobs, and how he looks at the new six-class WPIAL format.

Fire Destroys Ellwood City Home; Damages Next-Door House

LOCAL FIREFIGHTERS WERE BUSY FIGHTING A HOUSE FIRE IN THE 100 BLOCK OF ORCHARD AVENUE IN ELLWOOD CITY LAST NIGHT. THE FIRE ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO A HOUSE NEXT DOOR. ACCORDING TO ELLWOOD CITY POLICE, THE HOMEOWNER WAS TREATED AT THE SCENE FOR SMOKE INHALATION BUT REFUSED TRANSPORTION TO A HOSPITAL. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

Industry Man Suing Beaver Police Department

A MAN PREVIOUSLY CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING A BEAVER POLICE DOG HAS CLAIMED EXCESSIVE FORCE WAS USED IN HIS ARREST. 34-YEAR-OLD JAMES CICCO OF INDUSTRY IS NOW SUING THE BOROUGH, AS WELL AS SEVERAL POLICE OFFICERS. CICCO IS ALLEGING A TOTAL OF NINE CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS AGAINST THE BOROUGH, CHIEF DAN MADGAR AND OFFICERS JEFF WININ-REIMS AND HOWARD BINN THE SECOND. HE IS SEEKING A TOTAL OF 375-THOUSAND DOLLARS.
