Aliquippa City Council, at last night’s work session, approved the retirement of Officer Dale Nicholson. His last day will be July 29. He has served the city for more than 25 years. Johnnie Schooley was promoted from patrolman to sergeant, effective June 9. Robert Sealock was also promoted to sergeant, effective June 17. The men will also receive pay increases with the promotions. Officer Anthony Joseph Quinn served his one year probation , as did Officer James Mark Cillo. They are now patrolmen for the city. They will also receive pay increases. Police Chief Don Couch announced that Kennedy Boulevard at 21st St. northbound to Brodhead Road will close Wednesday, July 6 for road work. The lane will be closed for 3-4 weeks. Council will meet in regular session on Wednesday July 6 at 7 p.m.

Prize donations roll in for 2016 Run For McGuire

(Beaver Falls, PA) At a recent “Run for McGuire – A Special Ride For Special People” committee meeting, prize donations from the Rochester-Beaver Lions Club and R.A.K. Enterprises were announced. The gift basket from the Rochester-Beaver Lions Club and a four gift card set valued at $100 from R.A.K. Enterprises will be among many prizes being offered at this year’s event happening on August 7, 2016. In addition to being able to register to win one of the large door prizes, each participant will receive a “Goodie bag” of items courtesy of Rebecca Miller Farmer’s Insurance . Registration is $15 for drivers and $10 for passengers and includes a picnic buffet from Texas Roadhouse following the ride at Brady’s Run Park. Hopewell Police Search For Suspicious Man
Police in Hopewell Township are putting the community on alert regarding a suspicious man in the region. Police tell us that the suspect recently approached at least two girls in separate incidents and offered them rides. Both girls declined the offer and took off. The vehicle is described as a black Ford Ranger. The suspect is described as an older man with gray hair.
Christiana Bill To Expand PA Sunshine Act
The House State Government Committee has voted to approve legislation, which would expand Pennsylvania’s Sunshine Act. The bill – which was authored by State Representative Jim Christiana of Beaver County – would require all government bodies to post an agenda 24 hours before a voting meeting that includes a list of each matter of agency business that would be the subject of official action and/or deliberation. House Bill 1155 now awaits action by the full House.
Midland Today Magazine Editor Retires Friday
Fred Miller, Communications director for Lincoln Learning Solutions in Midland, and editor of the Midland Today Magazine will retire on Friday. Miller, of New Cumberland, West Virginia has been a long time colleague of Beaver County Radio News correspondent Sandy Giordano. Lincoln Learning Solutions is in charge of hiring Miller’s replacement. The magazine’s next issue comes out the last week in July. It is a supplement in the Beaver County Times.

Beaver County Sheriff Responds To County Commissioners Chairwoman Egley’s Accusations
Beaver County Sheriff Tony Guy this morning responded to accusations made by county commissioners chairwoman Sandie Egley that the sheriff’s department is consistently over budget, has ignored requests to stay within budget guidelines and is unwilling to correct the problem. Sheriff Guy tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak that yes, he is consistently over budget, but not because he is “unwilling”, rather it’s that he’s “unable” to correct the situation. Guy claims it’s the county that refuses to reimburse him for things he needs to do in the sheriff’s office and that he’s going to continue to be over budget until the commissioners correct the problem. Sheriff Guy also appeared on Teleforum with Mike Romigh today.
Prosecutors: Baden Man Gambled Away Money Stolen From Ambridge Area School District
Keith Kristek of Baden admitted today that he stole more than $1 million from the Ambridge Area School District and another $46,000 from the borough of Baden while acting as tax collector. Federal prosecutors said he gambled it away. Kristek plead guilty before a federal judge in Pittsburgh during a plea hearing today.
Aliquippa School District Rocked By Sex Scandal
A prosecutor says a school board member and a substitute teacher didn’t properly relay a report that an older student had sex with a 12-year-old girl in the Aliquippa School District. Aileen Gilbert, an Aliquippa School Board member, was arrested Monday. Police have a warrant to arrest the teacher, 45-year-old Ahna Anderson. Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier says the women didn’t immediately report cellphone video of the act.
