Steelers Start Camp

All the players are in town, the timed runs have been completed, and now it is time to get down to work.  The Steelers will hold their first practice this afternoon.  The practice with out pads starts at 2:55.  The gates open at St. Vincent College at noon. Off the top, the team got an apology from RB Le’Vion Bell for causing a distraction. Bell is facing a four game suspension for violating the NFL’s drug policy. Back and ready for action is center Maurkice Pouncey. Pouncey missed the entire 2015 season due to a broken ankle with compications in the pre-season.  The first pre-season game is Friday August 12th against the Detroit Lions at Heinz Field.

Pirates On The Road

Injuries have forced the Pirates to dip into their Triple A affiliate to fill out the roster for the series with the Brewers. Left hand pitcher Steven Brault will start tonight. There will have to be a roster move to make room for Brault.  Jammison Tallion will start Saturday night.  After being blown out by the Mariners, Francisco  Liriano will start Sunday afternoon. Tonight’s starter for the Brewers Junior Guerra is 6-3, however he has lost his last three starts.  Saturdays pitcher Matt Garza is 1-4 and lost to Pirates last weekend. The Brewers have yet to name a starter for Sunday’s game.

County Commissioners Proclaim August 7 as “Run For McGuire In Beaver County”

(Beaver, PA)  The Beaver County Commissioners made a proclamation declaring Sunday, August 7, 2016 officially as “Run For McGuire In Beaver County”.    The pronouncement happened at Thursday evening’s public meeting held at the Beaver County Courthouse. All three Beaver County Commissioners, including Commission Chairwoman Sandie Egley, Tony Amadio and Dan Camp were present and looked on as county solicitor Andrea Cantelmi read the proclamation. Accepting the Proclamation was “Run For McGuire” committee member John Harvey, who later went on to explain how the fundraiser is personal for him, having had an older sister who received special care after being stricken with polio many years ago.

McGuire Memorial was founded in 1963 and continues to provide state of the art care for 55 of “God’s Entrusted Treasures” at the campus in Daugherty township.  All net proceeds for the “Run for McGuire – A Special Ride For Special People” go toward funding the ongoing mission of providing the best possible care for the beloved residents at McGuire Memorial.

Aliquippa City Council Reappoints Myron Sainovich As Solicitor

Aliquippa city council held its monthly work session meeting last night and reappointed Myron Sainovich as solicitor. That’s according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. She says council also appointed Cheryl McFarland as the city’s finance director. Code Enforcement officer Mike Demcak announced that the PA Department of Environmental Resources will meet with city officials in council chambers today and conduct a field inspection and discuss the requirements of the MS4 program, which deals with storm water The MS4 is a storm water conveyance or system of storm water conveyances owned by the state, city, town, or village , or any public entity discharging to the waters in the United States.

There are several requirements outlined and the city is required to participate. The city obtained a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permi , which allows and controls direct discharge of storm water into navigable waters of the United States. Six minimum control measures addressed in the permit requirements.

Council meets in regular session Wednesday, August 3 at 7 p.m.

Murder-Suicide In Darlington Township Under Investigation

Police continue to investigate a murder-suicide in Darlington Township. Duane and Sonya Myers – both 45 years old – were found dead yesterday by police, who went to their home because Duane Myers did not show up at work. Officers say Myers shot his wife in the back and chest before turning the gun on himself. Detectives believe the incident happened early Tuesday morning.
