A Senate hearing that could lead to the removal of Attorney General Kathleen Kane got underway this afternoon with her chief of staff, Jonathan Duecker, testifying. The hearing, called under a section of the state Constitution for removing elected officials, is supposed to focus on Kane’s ability to perform her duties with a suspended law license. Kane told the committee in a letter Monday that she would not attend the hearing. The state Supreme Court suspended Kane’s law license after she was charged by Montgomery County prosecutors with perjury, obstruction and other crimes. Gov. Tom Wolf has called for Kane to step down. The committee has been charged with submitting a report to the Senate no more than 15 days after the hearing.
