Major Water Line Break in Aliquippa Disrupts Water Service

Water service has been restored to some areas of Plan 11 in the city of Aliquippa but Beaver County radio news correspondent Sandy Giordano reports that it will be some time before service is completely restored. Service was halted at 8:00 last night due to a water line break affecting Plan 11 and the Plan 11 extension.

Aliquippa Man Charged With Pulling Gun On 2 Teens & Taking Hoverboard

An Aliquippa man was arrested in connection with the armed robbery of two teens over the weekend. According to police, the incident happened in the 300 block of Woodrow Street in Aliquippa just before midnight on Saturday. Two teens, ages 14 and 17, were approached by 19-year-old Raequan Wannamaker. At that time, Wannamaker allegedly pointed a gun at one of the teens and demanded the hoverboard. Wannamaker took the hoverboard and fled on foot. He was later arrested and was found with a .32-caliber handgun and a small amount of suspected drugs. He is facing a list of charges, including armed robbery and aggravated assault with a weapon along with firearms violations.

Coraopolis Woman Burned In Oxygen Tank Explosion Dies

A woman injured Sunday night when her oxygen tank exploded in her Coraopolis home has died. 59-year-old Karen Tomko was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital from burns, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office. The office said that Tomko was smoking near her oxygen tank, which caused it to explode in her home in the 1200 block of Fourth Avenue. Her death has been ruled accidental.

Hopewell Board Of Commissioners Adopts 2016 Budget

The Hopewell Township Board of Commissioners adopted their 2016 budget last night. Beaver County radio news correspondent Sandy Giordano reports that the nearly 9-million-dollar budget holds the line on taxes, keeping the current tax rate at 14 mills. According to Giordano, the township manager – Norm Kraus Jr. – said that the budget is lower than usual because some expenses were paid down.

Wolf Vetoes Part of Budget; OK’s School Cash

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf says he is rejecting parts of a $30.3 billion state budget plan that’s already a record six months overdue, but he’s freeing up over $23 billion in emergency funding. At a news conference at the Capitol in Harrisburg this morning, the Democrat said the Republican-backed proposal falls short and lawmakers “left town before they finished their job.” However, he says he’ll release funds so schools and social services can stay open.
