VIDEO: Changes & Improvements To Beaver Falls Discussed On A.M. Beaver County

Changes have come, and changes are still coming.

The city of Beaver Falls is going through a transition from old-school steel town to new-school small business haven, and some of the changes have already been seen (most notably involving traffic lights and parking spaces). But much more is yet to come as the town has several different new facilities coming to the area over the course of 2020.

A panel featuring 5 of Beaver Falls’ more notable and pursuing individuals joined Matt Drzik on A.M. Beaver County to talk about the city’s improvements (names included with links):

The group also discussed the responses the public has had so far to the current changes, and the ways that these organizations can be supported & assisted with.

Who Are the House’s 7 Impeachment Prosecutors?

WASHINGTON (AP) — Speaker Nancy Pelosi named House prosecutors for President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial on Wednesday ahead of votes to send the charges to the Senate. At the same time, new information about the president’s Ukraine efforts intensified pressure for more witnesses at the trial. The seven-member prosecution team will be led by the chairmen of the House impeachment proceedings, Reps. Adam Schiff of the Intelligence Committee and Jerry Nadler of the Judiciary Committee. They are two of Pelosi’s top lieutenants, selected for only the third presidential impeachment in the nation’s history.

Judge Agrees to Block Trump Order on Refugee Resettlement

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — A federal judge has agreed to block the Trump administration from enforcing a presidential executive order allowing state and local government officials to reject refugees from resettling in their jurisdictions. U.S. District Judge Peter Messitte on Wednesday issued a preliminary injunction requested by three national refugee resettlement agencies that sued to challenge the executive order. President Donald Trump’s administration announced in November that resettlement agencies must get written consent from state and local officials in any jurisdiction where they want to help resettle refugees beyond June 2020. The administration didn’t immediately say whether it will appeal Messitte’s decision.

Billionaire Businesswoman Penny Pritzker Endorses Joe Biden

WASHINGTON (AP) — A major Democratic fundraiser and former commerce secretary under President Barack Obama has endorsed Joe Biden for president. The former vice president’s campaign announced the endorsement of billionaire businesswoman Penny Pritzker on Wednesday. Pritzker’s support could give Biden a considerable fundraising boost. Pritzker is an heir to the Hyatt Hotel fortune and played an instrumental role in Obama’s rise, helping him raise money for his Senate campaign and his 2008 presidential primary campaign against Hillary Clinton. Pritzker served as Obama’s commerce secretary from 2013 until he left office. Pritzker praises Biden’s years of Washington experience and joins a list of Obama administration officials who have endorsed Biden.

Work Underway on Upgrades to Heinz Field

Work is underway at Heinz Field on some upgrades to the stadium. Pittsburgh Steelers officials say they are building its new flagship store where a ticket window was located along Art Rooney Avenue. The two-story store, which is expected to be completed by July, will be 12-thousand-square feet and will stretch to the 50-yard-line. The team is picking up the construction’s 13-million-dollar price tag.

Senator Elder Vogel Jr. to Seek Re-Election

Senator Elder Vogel Jr. has announced that he will seek a fourth four-year term in the State Senate this year. In an interview with Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak yesterday afternoon, Vogel explained why he has decided to seek re-election in the 47th Senatorial district…

Vogel claims he has been a champion for Western Pennsylvania motorists throughout his time in the senate…but he says there’s some things he’d like to accomplish:

Vogel promises to run a positive campaign. I asked him if that means no mud-slinging…

The 47th State Senatorial District includes parts of Beaver and Butler Counties and all of Lawrence County.

UPMC: First Trial of Wireless Eyeball Implant Underway

Officials with U-P-M-C say the first trial of a wireless eyeball implant is underway. A woman from Ohio had the chip installed last week to act like an artificial retina. If effective, the treatment may be used to help people battling age-related macular degeneration, which causes 14-million people to lose their sight. Four more patients will take part in the trial in the coming months. It may be several years before the method gets broader approval to become an accepted treatment.

New Castle Woman Accused of Misusing Company Credit Card for Personal Use

A Neshannock Township woman is facing more than 2,000 criminal charges for misusing a Pennsylvania American Water Co. credit card for personal use while she worked there. According to the New Castle police department  in Shenango Township they filed charges against 49 year old Heather Cook of Green Tree Circle. The incidence of credit card charges span various dates between 2015 and 2017, involving more than $106,000. Cook was fired from her job on Sept. 15, 2017.
