Holidays at the Merrick Art Gallery

Starting on Saturday, December 8 from 10 AM to 9:30 PM, the Annual Christmas Tree display by The Merrick Art Gallery Associates’ Women’s Council will be on view un til December 21st during regular gallery hours.

  • December 8 from 6:30-7 PM, Twelve to sixteen singers from the Beaver Area High School will be performing in period costumes as the Dickens Choir and will be directed by music teacher, Sue Metelsky.
  • Sleigh Rides will be available December 8th from 6:45 – 9:30 pm at the corner of the Merrick Building at 5th Avenue and 11th Street in New Brighton.
  •   On Sunday, December 9th from 2:30 – 3:30 PM there will be a Christmas Concert performed by the Pittsburgh Recorder Society.  The Society will present delightful Yuletide music in ensemble style with a variety of woodwind instruments.

All of the events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, December 8 & 9 are FREE to the public.  Light refreshments will be provided by the Women’s Council.  Donations are gratefully accepted.

Admission is FREE!  Stop by to shop, browse and socialize.  There will be a Christmas Cookie sale, ethnic foods, silent auction, vendor & craft sales and SAMPLES galore!

Gas Prices Down In Beaver County

According to this week’s Triple-A gas price report, gas prices in Beaver County and throughout all of Western Pennsylvania are down nine cents, following a six cent a gallon drop last week. The average price is down to 2.71 a gallon.  The national average is down to 2.46 a gallon, which represents the cheapest national average since July of 2017.

Beaver County To Get $45,000 In State Funding To Help The Homeless

Beaver County will get $45,000 to help homeless families and pursue homelessness prevention after Gov. Tom Wolf released more than $5 million in funding on Monday. The money will be used for Rapid rehousing to help people flee violence or unlivable situations; homelessness prevention; street outreach connecting people with shelters and services; and emergency shelter operations and renovations.

Public Hearing On Proposed Mini-Casino To Be Held In Big Beaver Today

A PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING A PROPOSED MINI-CASINO TO BE BUILT IN BEAVER COUNTY WILL BE HELD THIS AFTERNOON. MOUNT AIRY CASINO – BASED IN MONROE COUNTY – PLANS TO OPEN A MINI-CASINO AT THE INTERSECTION OF FAIRLANE BOULEVARD AND SHENANGO ROAD IN BIG BEAVER AS SOON AS LATE 2019. MOUNT AIRY OFFICIALS WILL PRESENT THEIR PLANS AT THE BIG BEAVER FIRE STATION ALONG FRIENDSHIP ROAD AT 1:00 THIS AFTERNOON. THE PUBLIC IS ENCOURAGED TO SIGN UP TO SPEAK, BUT MUST DO SO IN ADVANCE THROUGH THE GAMING CONTROL BOARD’S WEBSITE. AMONG THE INDIVIDUAL’S SIGNED UP TO SPEAK – COUNTY COMMISSIONER DAN CAMP, WHO SAYS HE WILL BE SPEAKING IN FAVOR OF THE CASINO, WHICH IS EXPECTED TO BRING AS MANY AS 800 PERMANENT FULL-TIME JOBS AND AT LEAST 300 CONSTRUCITON JOBS. FOLLOWING TODAY’S PUBLIC HEARING AND THE COMPLETION OF THE BOARD’S INVESTIGATION, A FINAL PUBLIC MEETING WILL BE HELD IN HARRISBURG FOR THE BOARD TO MAKE A FINAL DECISION. THAT MEETING WILL OCCUR SOMETIME IN 2019. Firefighters Save Dog From Beaver Falls House Fire

Firefighters are being credited with saving a dog from a house fire in Beaver Falls over the weekend. It happened in the one-thousand block of Tenth Avenue Sunday afternoon. When firefighters arrived, they found the one-year-old pit bull in a cage with the homeowners away. The dog was uninjured but the home isn’t inhabitable.
