Slippery Rock University’s former police chief is being accused of taking money from the school. Michael Simmons was charged yesterday with theft, receiving stolen property and other charges. State police say Simmons stole between 23- and 25-thousand-dollars from the police department’s budget. Simmons was fired in February when budget discrepancies surfaced.

American Airlines Flight Heading To Pittsburgh Diverted Due To Bird Strike
An American Airlines flight heading to Pittsburgh from LaGuardia Airport had to return to its gate in New York due to a bird strike Monday morning, officials confirmed. The bird strike was encountered at takeoff at 8:11 a.m. The plane safely landed back at LaGuardia at 8:25 a.m. American Airlines’ maintenance team is evaluating the plane. A statement from American Airlines said they are are sorry for the trouble this has caused and their team is re-booked all 98 customers on other flights to Pittsburgh.
Breast Milk Bill Passes State House Of Representatives 191-1
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Amid growing demand among mothers and hospitals for breast milk, Pennsylvania is considering regulating milk donation to ban unsafe practices in sharing breast milk. The state House of Representatives voted 191-1 on Monday for legislation prohibiting the sale of human milk in Pennsylvania by any entity that isn’t licensed by the state Department of Health. The bill goes to the Senate.
Independence Township Man Accused Of Threatening State Troopers
An Independence Township man was arrested last night for drunken driving. After resisting arrest, threatening state troopers and his boss, Brandon Walters is now facing a multitude of charges, including making terroristic threats. Police say that Walters threatened to return to the barracks armed, and follow a trooper home, while he told the other trooper that he was going to kidnap him and make him beg for mercy. Walters is being held, while awaiting a preliminary hearing on Friday, after failing to post bail.

Franklin Township Officials Asking Residents To Send Them Storm Damage Estimates

Franklin Township officials are asking residents to send them damage estimates from last week’s storms. The township needs to show at least 25 homes had first floor flood damage adding up to at least 19-million dollars to be eligible for state or federal disaster relief funding. The storms last week dumped more than nine inches of rain over two days in some communities.

A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in a hit-and-run that damaged a business in Industry over the weekend. It happened at the A-K Nahas store in the eleven-hundred block of Route 68 early Saturday morning. The crash resulted in severe damage to the business. Anyone with information is asked to contact Beaver County Crime Solvers. Beaver Police are looking for a light silver Dodge Durango, that has extreme damage on the driver side, especially the rear end. The back left window is expected to be shattered, and the car also has loud muffler damage. Although there is severe damage, the car is still drive-able.
