They say the president is wrongly associating mental illness with violence. In the weeks following the deadly shootings in El Paso and Dayton, the president has been placing more emphasis on the problem of mental illness.
Trumps Declares Emergency in Florida
MIAMI (AP) — President Donald Trump has declared an emergency in the state of Florida as it braces for the brunt of Hurricane Dorian. Trump, whose Florida properties could sustain damage, has warned that Dorian could be an “absolute monster.” In issuing the emergency declaration, Trump has ordered federal assistance to supplement state and local efforts responding to Dorian.
Coal Mine Worker Killed When Long Wall of Coal Collapsed on Top of Him at Mine in Western PA
PROSPERITY, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a coal mine worker was killed when a long wall of coal collapsed on top of him at a mine in western Pennsylvania. The wall collapsed around 6 p.m. Thursday in the Enlow Fork Mine in Prosperity, about 40 miles (64kilometers) southwest of Pittsburgh. State police says 25-year-old Tanner Lee McFarland of Washington, Pennsylvania, was killed in the accident. But the cause and manner of death have not been determined. No other injuries were reported in the collapse.

AAA: Number of People Killed by Drivers Running Red Lights Hits 10-Year High
With the Labor Day weekend here, Triple-A reports the number of people killed by drivers running red lights has hit a 10-year high, and AAA is urging drivers and pedestrians to use caution at traffic signals. In 2017, the latest figures available, 939 people were killed by vehicles blowing through red lights. It’s the highest death toll since 2008 and 28% higher than in 2012.
Trans Teen’s Family Suing W. Virginia School District for Asst. Principal’s Alleged Harassment
A West Virginia family is suing their school district after a faculty member allegedly harassed a transgender teenager. The teenager was entering the boy’s bathroom when he was followed by assistant principal Lee Livengood, according to the lawsuit. Livengood allegedly told the teen he “freaked him out” then ordered him to prove his gender by using a urinal. The lawsuit alleges the Harrison County School district failed to create a safe environment. The Board of Education has not made a statement regarding the lawsuit.
